WC's

Anyone know if any players from the Rangers are joining their national teams at the World Championhsips?

According to someone on the WC board, Russia is trying to get Tyutin over.

Nyls turned down.

And the coached "guessed" Lundqvist wasn't a option and said he wouldn't even call him before Lundqvist even could turn down.

Sweden got a all SEL team except Steen, the attitude in the group is supposed to be great, and no matter if they get Nyls or Lundqvist or Näslund they will still have allot less talent then a team like Russia with a handful of megastars, or Canada with a all NHL team. Their shot is to pull of a mini Mircle on Ice.

It was also the small matter of time.

Hank had to have his med exam first, and fix visa, pack his stuff, get to moscow, adjust to the timezone and yada yada.

Bengan and the staff decided it was too little time to be worth it.

According to the Slovak paper, Tyutin is not coming because the Rangers didn't let him go.

From the WC board again.

Also a report that Tytuin is injured (or not 100% yet)..which could be why the Rangers aren't letting him go.

That must be an indication of how tired Nylander is: he loves these tournaments, doesn't he?

I think it wouldn't be a bad idea for Finland to take Immonen -- they could use some offensive creativity.

Was pretty interesting watching Sweden vs Slovakia in the WCH's tonight.

Marian Hossa must have had the biggest "deja vu" feeling tonight after the game against the Swedes.

The Slovaks plays exactly like the Thrashers. Their gameplan is to back down deep, win defensive battles and then counterattack extremely fast. The Swedes plays a puckpossesion game, very simular to the one we play in NY but the center and lw got somewhat diffrent roles.

Sweden won 7-4, the shots where something like 35-18 in favor of Sweden completly owning the 2nd and 3rd periods, could just as well have been 8-1.

The thing is that the Swedish roster makes less then 5m USD all 23 players combined, only Steen plays in the NHL. Zedno Chara alone makes 50% more then the entire Swedish team. And they also got guys like Gaborik, Marian Hossa, Demitra, Satan and Radijovic, and a pretty good goalie.

It got a bigger impact on the game on big ice, but watching Sweden against the Slovaks, or our series against Atlanta, or Detroits series against Calgary for example, its so obvious how superior a puck poession game is compared to a deep defense with a counterattack style offense.

With the crack down on hooks and holdings, and no redline offside, the scale have mightly tipped in favor of a puckpossesion style, instead of cutting down on misstakes and trapping.
