The Coyotes have a new owner, a perennial losing record and a top draft pick next month in Columbus. There have been rumblings that the Rangers might consider packaging Al Montoya, Petr Prucha and a pick/prospect for the Yotes' spot, which could turn into Kyle Turris or Pat Kane. Neither will be Sidney Crosby, but the talent thins out after No. 7, supposedly. Makes some sense.
The source is OK, but notice that he says "rumblings", not a "high source in the NYR org" or something like that.
But thought Id share it, been slow on the rumor front lately...
The Yotes are better off keeping the pick. There is no quick fix solution for the Yotes at the moment so there is no point in trading away your first rd pick. The Yotes have a decent nucleus already and a player such as Turris would only make it better.

personnally I think it would be good for Phoenix. There is no good goaltender available in the draft and Phoenix obviously needs one. Leneveu is starting to look more like a backup than a starting goalie in the NHL. Montoya would be great for them. Prucha is a decent player in himself that could produce more next year.
Thats a good deal for Phoenix. They get back a couple of really young players. Hopefully Prucha will step into his prime in 2-3 years as opposed to the Yotes' waiting 4-6 years for a guy in this draft to reach their prime. Good young goaltenders with elite potential are also very hard to comeby. They get one here with Montoya.
It's not too bad for the Rangers but I think they could get a little bit more. Obviously they're anxious to move Prucha, and Montoya needs to go somewhere because there's no place for him in New York.

Are you kidding? As much as "build for the fuuuuuuuuuuture" is a mantra is here, if this has actually been offered the 'Yotes would be absolutely silly not to make this deal. Put another way: what helps Phoenix the most going forward - a pick who has 1st-line, 25-35 goal potential but not "superstar forward" written on him, or Montoya who could legitimately be their #1 goalie for years to come and Prucha (you know, that guy everyone maligned b/c he only got 30 in '05-06 because he was supposedly playing with Jagr and yet still netted 22 this year without Jagr), a legitimate 25-30 goal scorer?
That said, I doubt it's actually been offered and I doubt it will be - because I still remember all of the reports about how teams were practically throwing half their farm system at Florida for their #1 pick in 2003, saw what Florida actually got, and recall that there's a vast difference between the two. That's not saying that Montoya wouldn't be offered for a high 1st-round pick, but I don't see both of those guys going for a top-5 pick.

Zipay is clueless
He has players being offered options in their contracts when options are no longer allowed in the new CBA.Doesn't know the difference between a group II FA and a group III FA
Last fall,Zipay had Montoya headed to Columbus for Zherdev when the latter was in his contract dispute with Columbus
I think this is a great deal for Phoenix, but I don't see it happening.
Phoenix already has Dallas's 1st as well, and they've got Hanzal and Mueller leading the charge of promising prospects, so losing the pick won't hurt that much. Adding a solid goalie in Montoya would be a definite plus, and I think Wayne could do a better job utilizing Prucha's skills than Renney did; last year was a write-off for Prucha and I think he'll bounce back in a different setting.
if that trade happens, i dont think nyr will have too many fans left over... so first we let wayne poach our gm, and then we hand over two of our best young players for a top pick in what has been described as an average draft? pass.
I don't make any trade like that this year, although I think Prucha might be gone on draft day. Renney just doesn't know how to utilize this guy. He still scored 22 goals while playing on the 4th line for a large sum of time, which is just ridiculous.
The only way I deal Prucha and Montoya *in a deal like that* is if we get 1st rounders for next year, I want Tavares.

Tavares isn't available until 2009.
And a big no on this deal. Not both for the 3rd pick.
Personally I think Montoya alone should do it, nevermind giving up two other assets. I wouldn't make the deal from a Rangers perspective.
exactly. monyoya is more then enough for the third overall pick. if i where GM of the rangers i would try to get even more then that for montoya. adding prucha + a prospect is just ridicolous.
The Kings had the 11th overall choice, and drafted Kopitar, which is why he wears #11. The Rangers losing out in the Kopitar sweepstakes, ended up taking one of their top 3 preferred picks in Staal at #12 overall.

I knew he was an 09 draftee, and didn't say the year after next.
In that case, I trade Prucha for a possible move up in this year's draft, but definitely not both of them. No way in hell do I do that.
The only way I trade both of them is if we were guaranteed the #1 overall pick in the 09 draft, and there's no guarantees that we can get that pick as of right now.
