That's a $1.225M cap #
This is exactly what I was thinking. I saw on another site where people wanted him locked up longer but I like the 2 year extension. He'll still be an RFA at the end of the contract. We'll have 2 years to evaluate him along side Carter and Richards to determine what we think he's worth compared to those guys and IF we feel he's part of the long term solution. If we like what we see we can then lock him up long term like we did with Gagne.

I think the price and lenght were perfect. He should be happy with the raise. The contract is only 2 years so he should remain hungry to try and get a bigger payday a year before he's a UFA. Nice job Homer.

That was a different game.

Still one of my favorite goals.

Chara had the game-tying goal in the game Upshall won with the beauty in OT. I do remember Mark Mowers scored twice in the first seven or eight minutes of the game to give Boston a 2-0 lead. I don't recall too many penalties against Chara. That was the 55-shot performance.

Great news.

Chalk up an Upshall jersey as my next purchase... it'll go nicely with my Schultz jersey and new Eager one.

Love the kid. Great news.

I guess that guy who predicted Vancouver would send him an offer sheet was WAY off.

Good for Homer, though I will admit that I want to see all of our key UFA's resigned:

Afanasenkov, Pitkanen, Potulny, Nitty...

one down four to go before july 1st.

As for Scottie, not to get premature or anything, but what is everyone predicting he will do next year. I think that he could be a 50 point - 20 goal player but probably won't go higher than 60 points 25 goals.

I don't think signing these four will be a problem. Affy will sign anything to stay in the league, the rest will get appropriate offers.

Upshall showed very good speed, grit and skill in his time with the Flyers last year. If he's the 2nd line LW or RW, he could very well score 25 goals, but let's start with 20.

I know he played mostly RW, but he had a shift last year streaking up the left side and I thought it was Gagne at first. He could easily make that switch, esp. given how many good RW prospects we have coming up...

If there's a RW on the market that's better and cheaper than any LW on the market, switching Upshall to the left side would not be a problem in the least.

When Knuble, Upshall, and Carter were on a line, one of 'em was on the left side... I forget who, but these guys are much more flexible than people make 'em out to be. It isn't rocket science.

Knuble was a LW for most of his time in Boston. He can definitely play there. I am sure Upshall could as well.

well there you have it.

lets convince Smyth to play for ~5M, sign Nylander (since he's cheaper) to be the top-line center.

Gagne-Nylander-Smyth
Knuble-Carter-Upshall

tasty.

Except that Smyth is almost strictly a LW.
