I think it's a bad matchup. Phillips, Volchenkov and Fisher in Jagr's face all night scares me. also I think the Rangers are better equipped to face a well-balanced attack than a line of elite offensive players.
Not really, but probably not as bad as some of you think. I don't trust Emery and I think we could have put more pucks past him than what Miller allowed. That top line is friggin scary though, no matter who is in net.
I don't know, I think there'd be an easier time scoring against Emery, but Ottawa's offense is, well, potent.
My educated prediction is Ottawa in six, but I'd be very surprised if the series even makes it back to Buffalo. The Rangers really showed that Buffalo has come down to earth and ripe for the picking, and if it weren't for a few bounces here and there and a few less seconds on the clock, it'd be the Rangers trying to beat out Ottawa.
Game 6 and tonight's Game 1 also showed that Ryan Miller is indeed human.
Wasn't nearly as one sided as the score would indicate. The game was tied 2-2 going into the 3rd. Ottawa went up 3-2, before adding a pp goal and an empty netter with under 5 to play. It was really a 1 goal game until the end.
The Sabres special teams against us were not very good. 5 on 5 is how they won the series--with a big boost from their own hot goalie. The Sabres may be too much the run and gun and when they get shorthanded that doesn't work. Their defense is not very big either. When McKee left--there went their shutdown d-man.
Ottawa would have presented a different problem for us. Emery is good but hardly as good as Miller or Lundqvist. He is a kind of like a Mike Vernon when the Wings were winning the cup. The beneficiary of a solid D and a fairly dangerous offense. For us to have done well against Ottawa we would have to have production from more than just Jagr's line. We would have to get through their D and get shots on goal. It's hard to say but I think we would have given them more of a battle than the Devils who to my eyes are a team on the decline. The Sabres have their hands full again. Ottawa can't necessarily turn over 4 lines like they can but they have IMO the best defense corps in the East. They have Heatley and Spezza who are as good a forward tandem as any in the East and they have Alfredsson IMO one of the more dangerous and underrated players in the league. And then there's Neil--maybe the best hitter in the East who can hurt you on the scoreboard or hurt you on the ice. I'd love to have a player like that.
I don't think the Rangers were getting out of the 2nd round. I think they're slowly emerging as a decent playoff team. But there's still some tweaking needed. I knew they'd be able to beat Atlanta, but felt they'd hit wall with either the Sens or Sabres. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the scare they put into the Sabres. Tying up the series at two and coming to within 7 seconds of taking a 3-2 lead was amazing.
Think we would lose in 5 games, even perhaps get swept. From the first game of the playoffs this Sens team has impressed the heck out of me. I think they are the class of the East and can battle the Wings or Ducks hard. After years of disappointment, the Sens seem to have that intangible something, that inner toughness, that drive, to win it all. They are as talented as anyone but physically tougher than Buffalo. They just have that look about them. Only Emery has been the question mark and he looks good to me.
We would have battled hard and Henrik would have kept us in some games, but they would have worn us down and broken games open in the 3rd period. We're just not yet in their class. Wow, are they good!!!!
Not suprised really. All the Sens need to do is watch the tapes of the our series, and do what we did, but be more consistant. You have to pressure Buffalo, and not let up. I'm not saying it's a done deal, but I think it's going to be 4-1 Sens.
I will admit that I would have preferred to play you guys, only because I think Phillips and Volchenkov would do better against the Jagr line then they will against these tiny, darting buffalo forwards. That being said, Lundqvist (sp?) was really good in the playoffs and having guys like Shanny on the 2nd line doesn't hurt.
I am 90% sure ottawa will take the east finals, however, its all on Emery I feel. If he slips up or goes in a funk Buffalo can run with it. He's a great goaltender but I do not think hes as good as Miller, or our very own King for that matter.
