Sad day indeed.

I had the same exact thought when I read this.

The official story:

Quote:
Cardinals relief pitcher Josh Hancock was killed early Sunday in an accident on Highway 40 (Interstate 64), just west of Compton Avenue, authorities said.

Hancock's Ford Explorer slammed into the rear of a tow truck that was parked in the far left westbound lane shortly after 12:30 a.m. The tow truck driver, who was seated in the vehicle at the time, was unhurt.

He told police that his emergency lights were on, and that he honked his horn when he saw the Explorer approaching in his rear view mirror, but that the Explorer didn't slow down or swerve to avoid the collision.

At the time of the accident, the tow truck driver was assisting a motorist from an earlier accident.

Hancock, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hopefully it was quick and painless.

Mrs. IB's best friend ran into the back of a car parked in the left lane of I-270 between Lindbergh and McDonnell Boulevard several years ago. She hit the other car doing about 60 mph.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were involved; miraculously, she wasn't seriously injured.

Good to hear that she's okay IB. The shoulders in this city are absolutely horrendous. Hopefully with the work that's about to start on 40 they'll get that taken care of. RIP Josh Hancock.

Also, both were on days where another sport was holding their draft.

Rest in peace, Josh.

OK ... let's leave this thread to focus on what happened, and leave the personal "... and other people die every day, what's so big about this?" commentary out of it.

Bernie Miklasz posted a very nice summary of the day's events at the stadium. Hancock did die instantly, which if you've seen a picture of the vehicle after the accident is a good thing.

I'm glad their not worrying about the conditions of the crash yet. They should let the shock setlle a little and then figure it out.

RIP JH

They showed the picture of his explorer and the tow truck on Channel 5 last night. the tow truck back was up, so it basically sheared the top of the Explorer off. It was pretty brutal.

As I posted on the MLB boards, the only time I ever went to Wrigley Field was for the Cubs/Cards game in June 2002. The game was delayed 20 minutes and we didn't know why..then we found out what happened to Darryl Kile.

Two guys in 5 years for the same team. You guys don't deserve that. Nobody does. Such a sad story, RIP Josh.

Yes, not to mention:

- Marijuana and pipe found in car.
- Speeding 14 mph over limit.
- Not wearing a seatbelt.
- Talking on his cell phone.
