TRADE prop: Vancouver / Chicago

Would Chicago be interested?

To Chicago:
Corey Schneider

To Vancouver:
Jonathan Toews

Chicago gets a great young American goaltender (they're starved for one and Habby is on the decline AND is costing you a ton. You have a few prospects but none of them as highly touted as Schneider. This would allow you to move La-lame and bring Schneider in to back up Habby for a year.) and Vancouver gets a great young Canadian scoring prospect who could be a GREAT fit with the Sedins. I think it's a pretty even deal straight up AND I think it really shores up both teams weaker areas.

What do you think?

You left out the sarcasm emoticon.

No way do the Hawks even consider that deal.

Hawkster... why?

Am I wrong about Chicago's goaltending prospects?

Schneider is one of the most highly touted goaltending prospects in the world, if not the highest... Chicago doesn't need a prospect of that potential? Don't you have Ruutu and Havlat? Offense is your teams strength isn't it?

What do you think it would take or is Toews just untouchable? I find it hard to believe that Chicago wouldn't even consider obtaining Schneider considering how important goaltending is in the NHL and how poorly Habby and La-lame have played for you.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

My god are all Canadian's this ignorant?

Toews is arguably the 2nd best prospect in the WORLD behind Erik Johnson!

WJC's are a prime example of how this kid will turn out.

You've got to be kidding.

And yes

Schneider is much better than Rask, Montoya, Price and Pogge [/sarcasm]

Ruutu is anything but a scoring power... he's an enforcer with an offensive finesse. Physical.

Toews is our future here in Chicago... Havlat also.

Well... Leafs fans are an embarrASSment to the NHL and your team would KILL to have a prospect like Schneider or Toews in your system... but I digress.

Lets not have this thread hijacked by another Leaf fan OK?

Can we DISCUSS the merit's of this trade please.

Thanks.

I appreciate the reactionary sentiments... BUT, WHY would Chicago not do it? Don't they have a tonne of scoring prospects?

And this is not an ignorant proposal... it is a QUESTION, a QUERY.

Thanks again for all of your thoughtful insight.

Toews is a Franchise player, he is their best prospect.

Corey Crawford is a good prospect too!

Toews is the future of our team. We need scoring forwards. We have a ton of Dmen not scoring forwards.

Would you trade Toews if he was a nuck?

No you wouldn't.

It's true that the Hawks goalie prospects aren't the best (Crawford, Fallon, Palmer), it's just that Toews is by far the best prospect in the system, and he happens to play at the position that the Hawks suck worst at - center.

I'd rather keep Toews and try to find the next goalie through FA or an upcoming draft pick (35th overall might get a good one).

When you think about Schneider's position in the Vancouver system (stuck behind one of the best in Luongo), this has to affect his value in some way, and as unlikely as it sounds, who's to say that a team won't be able to get him for nothing/next to nothing in a year or two's (don't know which) time?

This is just a bad, bad deal from a Hawks perspective.

Hey... thanks for the thoughful reply. If you guys covet him that much I doubt anyone could pry him from you at any price.

He's a great player no doubt.

I would say that the top 5 players picked in 2006 wouldn't be trade 1 on 1 for any prospects on the board.

Are you joking?? For Schneider you wouldn't even be able to get David Bolland, let alone Toews. hahahahaha funniest post I've seen in a long, long time.

My bad guys... I had thought Schneider was much more highly touted out there.

Thanks to all those who added to the discussion and brought some rational to the table.

As has been made abundantly clear, this is an awful, awful deal. Goalie prospects are way too big of a crapshoot, even one as good as Schneider. For Bolland I'd do it in a nanosecond, but Toews is arguably the best forward prospect not playing in the NHL.

Yes Chicago is weak in quality goaltending prospects but they are also terribly weak in quality centre prospects. Even if Chicago had loads of NHL ready centres they could get a better deal for Toews than just Schnieder.

You obviously don't follow the Hawks much. Nearly everyone knows that Chicago's young defense is their strength.

Lalime was good for Chicago last year and i really doubt that Schnieder could step into the NHL now and out perform Lalime.

Oh and Khabby was probably Chicago's MVP for last season. They got 55 of their 71 points with Khabby in net....

Well with Bill Wirtz the owner in Chicago and how he runs things, he might just give the kid away for nothing!
