Proposals for Cory Schneider

As we all know, Schneider will probably never see action in a Canucks uniform with Luongo in net. Schneider is one of the best goaltending prospects in the world, and probably only needs two years of AHL conditioning before jumping in as a starter. The Canucks need offense badly, or forward prospects ready to jump in. Packaging a top 4 defenseman with him for a sure-fire first liner might work. Any offers?

If he doesn't sign with the Canucks before the entry draft, my guess is that he'll be used as trade bait. If the Canucks trade him for a similar prospect at forward or package him for some immediate offensive help I would hope that Nonis would pull the trigger.

I can see a few teams having interest in Schneider if Nonis shops him, Philadelphia, Columbus, Chicago, Florida and Phoenix.

This is essentially the same situation as when the Panthers aquired Luongo. They had drafted Alex Auld the prior year and both the organization and Auld could see the writing on the wall. He was dealt to Vancouver for a 2nd.

Edit to add an offer...

To Vancouver: Kamil Kreps

To Florida: Cory Schneider

I don't think Kreps would entice the Canucks enough for them to move Schneider for him. I think Anthony Stewart or Kendall McArdle would be of more interest.

Well, depends if it true or not that Scheider can become an UFA sometime in the next four months. There is an on going debate/war around a few discussions about that. if he can become an UFA, not many teams would give that much up for a guy they could get for free in a few months.

Schneider can't become an UFA this year at all. If he decides to return to college for his senior year, then he could become a free agent on August 15th, 2008 if not signed before then. My guess is that if Nonis hasn't signed Schneider prior to the entry draft he will shop him around at that time.

May not be the Canucks' decision. If Schneider plays his final NCAA season next year and does not sign with the Canucks, he becomes UFA on 15 August 2008.

2nd rounder, or come back with him under contract. Right now he's basically a rental player except he won't play at all.

How can the Canucks even think of getting rid of Schneider? He's a perfect fit! The kid looks like he could be the third Sedin!

The Sedins are GQ models compared to Schneider.

According to boston.com today, he hasn't decided yet what he's going to do. Apparently, he's going to take 2 or 3 weeks to decide his future and then make a decision. I'm thinking Schneider goes pro, plays in Manitoba, tears it up, and then is part of a package so that the Canucks get some additional scoring.

That's what I hope happens as well. Yes Schneider probably doesn't have much of a future with the Canucks having Luongo in net, but anywhere Schneider goes he's likely at least one, and probably two years of AHL action away from challenging for a job in the NHL. If he stays at school for next season IMO that will only push his development back and he will be even farther away from landing an NHL job. If he were to sign with the Canucks this off-season he would likely be given the starter's role in Manitoba and if he excelled down there, my guess is that Nonis would use his elevated worth to shop him around prior to the trade deadline to a team that could use him.

And Nonis stated that there is some monetary incentive for Schneider to sign with the Canucks, as he said that if Schneider became a UFA the CBA wouldn't allow him to sign for as much as he could with thej Canucks, before he became a UFA. Not sure how - like grandfathering of the CBA or something - but he was clear that it happens.

Or he tries to get his NCAA championship ring, goes back to the World's with the US after the season (again), waits until August 15, 2008 to start auctioning his services off to any of 30 NHL teams and at that age (22) only has to sign a two year entry contract.

The Canucks would then get a late second round compensatory pick for him in the 2008 Entry Draft.

The puck is in his end of the rink on this one. He holds all the cards.

You are crazy. He is waaay better looking than those two freaks, which is not saying much. At least he looks like a human being. An ugly, Irish human being, but a human being nonetheless.

They look similar, yes, but the Sedins are clearly uglier.
