#1 Centers

Could someone give a list of every possible #1 Center? I'm just wondering what exactly the Blues are looking for...

Walz, Comrie, Lang and Handzus are not #1 centers. Walz is a third-liner and the rest are 2d liners.

How did I know you were gonna chime in on Walt being claimed as a 1st line center

He's talking about Wes Walz, the 3rd line center in Minnesota; not our Walt.

No need. 50% of me thought it was just a mistake, 50% thought it was a ha-ha little winky joke anyway.

I'd like to sign Drury for the Blues, but I wonder if the Blues can afford him, as he'll almost certainly be the focus of a bidding war.

Comrie might be a second-liner, but I'd give strong consideration to signing him. I'm about 90% convinced that the Blues would be better off signing Comrie and Handzus both for what they'd have to offer to Drury alone.

Comrie and Handzus give the Blues lots of options with line combinations.

Good post.

What's the better offense?

Ruchinsky-Boyes-Weight
Stempniak-Drury-Backes
Cajanek-McClement-Mayers
RJ-Drake-Hinote

or

Ruchinsky-Boyes-Weight
Comrie-Handzus-Backes
Stempniak-McClement-Mayers
RJ-Drake-Hinote
(Cajanek is moved)

?

1st of all, remove Drake from both and you have a better offense automatically. But Drury is a better addition, than the combination of adding Comrie/Handzus and removing Cajanek.

Well Drake is with the team. No getting around that. I think it comes down to whether you'd want an A line (Stemp, Drury, Backes), B+ line (Weight's) and a C line (McClement's) or a B+ line (Weights), a B-(Backes, Comrie, Hanzus) and a C+ (Stemp, McClement, Mayer). And these grades are based on scoring prowess.

I'd love to have Drury... but 2 free agents for the same price are pretty good too

I think it's safe to say that whatever happens, Stemp will be on the first or second line. He won't be stuck on line three after last season.

Here is how I would rank the Centers.

1. Drury
2. Gomez

3. Comrie
4. Tkachuck
5. Briere (If you have watched Buffalo at all this post season you understand why he is here).

6. Lang
7. Handzus
8. Walz

I don't see Forsberg playing in the US next season.

There aren't any actual #1 C's available this offseason, just alot of really good #2's.
When can we start throwing offer sheets at Crosby-Malkin-J.Staal to screw over the Pens and hopefully shake one of their top end forwards loose?

I believe, once their entry-level-contracts expire....so 3 years after their debut?

Crosby = after next season
Malkin & Staal = after '08-'09 season

....but, the chances of Pittsburgh ever allowing Crosby to reach RFA status is unlikely. They'd be wise to give him a DiPietro-like contract tying him up forever.

I would love to have Stempie on the 3rd line. They would constantly wind up facing the 3rd pairing guys and it would allow us to roll 4 lines and have scoring power on 3.

Further, the kid line rocked last year and I think that McClement is ofter overlooked as a set up man, but imo, he proved he can play as a 2nd line center when he had Weight on his wing.

Finally, I think the kid line was the best line from about Feb on. Backes got comfortable, McClement played very well, and Stempie woke up after falling into a rut under the 'sink in Nov and Dec.
