Best rated players for NHL 08?

So I know EA's ratings are most of the time pretty screwy and unrealistic but if you could do the ratings of the top NHLers for the 08 version how would you do it?

Personally, players above 90 overall would be absolute superstars, above 80 would be 1st-2nd liners, above 70 would be most of the 3rd and 4th liners.

My NHL Top 15:
Roberto Luongo (96)
Vincent LeCavalier (96)
Sidney Crosby (95)
Martin Brodeur (95)
Joe Thornton (94)
Jaromir Jagr (94)
Nicklas Lidstrom (93)
Chris Pronger (93)
Scott Niedermayer (93)
Martin St-Louis (92)
Alexander Ovechkin (91)
Henrik Lundqvist (90)
Miikka Kiprusoff (90)
Peter Forsberg (90)
Jarome Iginla (89)

Habs top 5:
Andrei Markov (87)
Saku Koivu (84)
Cristobal Huet (83)
Sheldon Souray (83)
Alex Kovalev (82)

So what do you think?

There will be over 100 players @ 90+ overall in this game.

80 will mean they're ****. Seriously.

kaberle should be a 92-94
sundin should be an 84-87
mccabe SHOULD be an 83 but he'll probably be an 86 because of salary
Kubina should be a 82-85
gill 73-75

i could keep going but it makes no sense... EA is rarely realistic.

NHL07 is A LOT better then NHL 2K7 on the xbox 360 IMO. i played 2K7 for about 30 minutes, and then gave up. it was nothing like NHL07. NHL07 has a lot of errors, but playing it is much better, IMO.

Columbus top 5.

Nash: 95 (If they dont rate him on his points from this past season)
Vyborny: 90 (VERY underrated IMO)
Norrena: 88 (Strong season)
Modin: 87 (got enough points to deserve a good rating)
Fedorov: 85 (EA sports rides his jock some more and gives him a good rating)

Yeah I know EA always does crappy ratings, but I thought we could have a good thread with some healthy discussions and have realistic ratings. EA will probably rate Souray 95 overall.

If Kaberle is a 94 what are Lidstrom, Pronger and Nieds? 108?

Realistically if Markov is an 87 like I proposed Kaberle could an 88-89. Like I said only a few should be rated in the 90's, only the superstars. Kaberle is close, but not yet. Agree on the rest.

Wait, Willie Mitchell an 85? I know he's a good shutdown guy, but I don't see him above 81-82 max if we use realistic ratings.. You're right though EA will probably have him around 84 or will totally drop the ball and give him a 74.

Naslund didn't have a good season.. It depends if EA takes past seasons into account for 08.. I gave Kovalev an 83.. Naslund could be an 84-85.. Agree on the rest.

What? I dont even think EA will give ratings that high.. The Jackets are one of the worst team in the league, so their ratings will reflect that. Fedorov maybe 82-83... Modin 83-84.. Norrena? I'd say around 83.. Vyborny I agree underrated but I'd see him as a 86 maybe.. and Nash didnt have a good season but we all know he's good so.. maybe 86-87? And Zherdev.. I can't wait to see his ratings.. I'd say he should be a 78-79.

So what do you think?
Your top 15 looks pretty spot on, imo. The only person I can think of that you forgot is Dany Heatley, who should probably be around a 94 (on par with Thornton and Jagr). I would bump Forsberg down a notch or two to an 88 (just too limited by injuries this season), and maybe give Sakic a 90 rating. That would bump Forsberg and Iginla out of the top 15. Otherwise, very solid list.

Nash SHOULD be a 95, but his play has not warranted that high a rating yet. I think he will be the Jackets' highest rated player, but I think they'll give him something in the mid-80s range (maybe 86 at the highest). Vyborny is very underrated, but giving him a 90 rating is overrating him... a notch or two below Nash sounds about right to me, maybe 84. I would put Modin there, as well... and give Zherdev a 36! What a dog....

Briere - 92 Should be a playmaker next year and not a sniper
Vanek - 90
Miller - 88
Drury - 87
Tallinder - 87 Should be a defensive defenseman and not offensive
Connolly - 87

Drury and/or Briere might not be on the Sabres next year but I'm just rating the current roster.

Nicely done buddy, very nice. If a random guy on a message board can do realistic ratings like that, I don't see why EA can't!

Very nice as well. Datsyuk may be too high, he's talentend but doesn't have the intangibles that others guy might have, I'd have him maybe 87-88, but most of his offensive ratings very high. Holmstrom maybe a bit higher.

Nicely done as well. Did Staal play a game this year? EA only has the rights to players who already played in the NHL. Not sure about Marc. Nylander and Straka might be a bit too high.. I'd Straka 84 and Nylander 85-86 personnally.

Well obviously EA will rate most of Buffalo's players better than they should just to make Buffalo one of the best team in the NHL, but realistically I think your ratings may be a bit high. Vanek I'd say an 85-86 would be alright, Briere maybe 87 Drury 88.. Miller is okay, Connolly and Tallinder a bit high too.. I'd have both at around 84-85.

datsyuk is actually very good defensively, 90 may be a bit to high, but the homer in me may have kicked in, lol.

i also think that holsmtrom at 81 sounds about right, maybe 82-83, but not any higher then that.

i like you habs ratings, but we all know it wont happen. samsonov will be a lot better then 74. and i dont think they will rate plecanek as high as 80, allthough he does desereve it.

I don't even want to guess.....

Jason Allision in 07 was 88 and led the league in scoring 4 times.....and top 20 every year....

I traded him plus 1st pick for Crosby and Crosby scored less points then him

From the Leafs:

Wellwood - 91
Sundin - 96
Kaberle - 94
McCabe - 93
Steen - 83
Stajan - 84
Ponikarvosky - 86
Antropov - 85
White - 86
Raycroft - 89 (because he won 37 games lol......)

Lol I bet those are the rating for the Leafs.O'Neil will probably be 87 and Gill and Colaiacova 83 each lol. Our team is gonna rock in 08!

EA sports are so ridiculous. Hopefully they also let you sign players for more years, and also players want less money. Man Crosby was on free agnecy for 2 years because he wanted 10m a year. (I got him for 6m/3 year deal cuz all the upgrades but common...they have to be realistic with salary.)

Anyone is a playmaker if you know how to play. They put that stuff on there just to make it more realistic.

Your forwards seem realistic but your defense and minors are a bit high IMO but then again we never know with EA. Jackman and McKee I could see as 82-83, Polak/Salvador/Woywitka a bit lower like 75-76, Brewer seems a bit right and Erik Johnson well usually EA rates the rookies as 71-72 but realistically I'd put him around 75.

In the minors, I could see them between 70-74, as for Schwarz he didnt played enough game to get an 80, I rated Halak at 78 so Shwarz could be a 75?
