EA tends to rate a ton of players over 90, most of the ratings in this thread would be more consistent with 2K's ratings. Take off 3-4 points and my ratings and they'd probably be more consistent with the rest.

Pronger = 96
Getzlaf = 90
Andy Mac = 89
Giguere = 87
Schneider = 87
Perry = 86
Pahlsson = 84
Bert = 84
Beachemin = 83
Kunitz = 81
Moen = 81

S. Nieds = 96
Selanne = 94
Penner = 84

Using the Ducks as a good yardstick, because they are probably the best team on paper, this is how i would rank them 'realistically'

Selanne 89
McDonald 85
Getzlaf 83
Perry 81
Bertuzzi 80
Penner 78

Niedermayer 92
Pronger 90
Schneider 85
Beauchemin 83

Giguere 91
Bryzgalov 86

etc.

and no higher. and remember, this is the best team on paper

Weren't Pronger and Niedermeyer both rated like 96 last year? Relative to each other I agree though. Getz was an 80 last year, he was fantastic with only 15 minutes of ice time. If you extrapolated it out I think he'd be close to Marleau territory who was over a 90. Maybe not that close, Getz should probably be about an 87-88 I guess. EA is very liberal with the points.

Nicely done. IMO, Bert will be a smidge higher, just based on reputation, and Giggy will probably be >90 (since EA seems to rate goalies more on stats than real ability). The Getzlaf rating should be more like ~87, but it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him overrated as well.

How does Briere, with 90+ points, get an 87?
How does Gagne, with the ability to play good in all 3 zones, definatly NOT a one dimensional player, put up 41 goals and 27 assists on the worst team in the league and still scrape by with a plus 2 when the rest of the team has ridiculous high neg +/- get only an 86? I know the Flyers record was terrible, but Gagne is IMHO the BEST player on the team. That might not sound like much, but after all the changes this team will certainly not be the worst even in the division. Id say his rating should equal or be 1 higher then Briere. I stand firm with Gagne 91, Briere 90.
I think Knuble is underrated to. He put up 50+ points and your rating him a 79. I could live with a low 80 on him.
Rathje is in the 60's at this point, but rating him is a waste of time anyway. He should never be back. LTIR.
Gauthier should be lower.
Coburn higher.
Hatch is ok, id prefer lower (72), but he is good on PK.
I get the Upshall, Carter and Richards are mid to high 70's, mainly because they are good, but still have lots of potential to fill.
Lupul has potential, lets see if he reaches it.
These ratings are ok since the team did bad last year, but i think the potential on some of these guys should be high. Especially Coburn, Richards, Carter, and Upshall. Lupul to but not as much.

Say Crosby gets like a 97. And Lecavlier gets a 96. Is it a stretch to say 90-91 for Gagne? or am i nuts? Lecavlier was on a much superior line with Martin St Louis. That helps his numbers. Gagne had foppa when he played and Jeff Carter setting him up then.

Diamonds Joe, BritSabre - and anyone who wants to help - with a bit over a month before the game comes out, I'm sure we'd be able to rate pretty much every players out there. And not just overalls, but pretty much every ratings, and not just NHL players, since the AHL is in the game too, we should do the AHLers too.

What do you think? We should chat a bit about this on MSN. If interested send me your MSN by PM, I'll add you.

Would be neat to be able to do this for free for the good folks here at HF.
I'd be happy to help out. I'm not too sharp on the western conference as the home games for western conference teams don't tend to be on until 3am and as much as I love the sport I do also enjoy some sleep! The only time I can see western teams is away to eastern teams. I could lend a hand with any incoming Swedish players as I spend quite a bit of time over there.

You might be right for Gagne.

Briere is okay at 87 though. Didnt play that well in the playoffs, and he is small, soft and not that good defensively. With his offensive skills he should be right around that 87 mark.

Gagne is comparable to Gaborik. Both are the same kind of players, Gagne has proved more and Gaborik is injury prone, but if you ask anyone out there Gaborik would be the higher rated guy and EA's will rate him higher as well IMO. I had Gaborik as an 88.. so yeah Gagne at 86 seems a bit low, but with the poor Flyers season he won't get an 90 like you are suggesting. 88 would be good IMO.

As for the others I agree. Upshall, Carter, Richards all those guys should have high potential ratings. About Knuble, I think his offensive skills are limited depite putting all those points. First Thornton and Murray/Samsonov and then Gagne and Forsberg. He's a good net crasher, is big and strong but isnt that talentend IMO. An 80 would be fair I guess. About Rathje, I rated him because of his reputation. He will be in the game and I doubt EA gives him a rating in the 60's. Not sure what happended to him anyway. Also, Coburn did well in a short period of time, and usually that doesnt equal in a 75-76. I think 71-72 is good with a high potential.

Personally, players above 90 overall would be absolute superstars, above 80 would be 1st-2nd liners, above 70 would be most of the 3rd and 4th liners.

My NHL Top 15:
Roberto Luongo (96)
Vincent LeCavalier (96)
Sidney Crosby (95)
Martin Brodeur (95)
Joe Thornton (94)
Jaromir Jagr (94)
Nicklas Lidstrom (93)
Chris Pronger (93)
Scott Niedermayer (93)
Martin St-Louis (92)
Alexander Ovechkin (91)
Henrik Lundqvist (90)
Miikka Kiprusoff (90)
Peter Forsberg (90)
Jarome Iginla (89)

Habs top 5:
Andrei Markov (87)
Saku Koivu (84)
Cristobal Huet (83)
Sheldon Souray (83)
Alex Kovalev (82)

So what do you think?
Heatley isn't on your list. You rated Souray well but in the game he'll be like 88-89

Sens Top 5:
Heatley 95
Alfie 92
Spezza 92
Emery 88
Redden 84

Whoa, no way Nash should be near a 93. 86 at best. The guy's never even hit 60 points and had a terrible season last year and plays under a Hitchcock system in Columbus that will hinder his offensive output. He has the potential to produce Heatley-like numbers, but this game shouldn't rate on potential, rather production.

I see most of you agree with my thinking of what's a 'fair' rating is like. Thank you to the Toronto fans who agree with my ratings, I think its neat that Hab and Leaf fans can get along lol.

About Columbus - awsquires, I think your ratings are good from a EA's standpoint but we are trying here to make them a bit more realistic so they look a lil bit too high comparing to the others we have done so far. Here's my crack at CBJ:

Nash 84
Zherdev 76
Chimera 74
Shelley 62

Fedorov 81
Novotny 73
Svitov 73
Malhotra 73
Brule 71

Vyborny 83
Modin 81
Fritsche 74

Klesla 78
Foote 77
Westcott 76
Hainsey 73
Tollefsen 73
