Oilers vs Flames Gameday Thread!!!

Edmonton Oilers vs Calgary Flames
December 23, 2003
7:00 PM

It's my first ever gameday thread and hopefully it will pump some good luck into the Oilers! I'm expecting a really good game and hopefully the Oilers can end their slump and in the process halt Calgary's streak!! I predict a 4-1 Oiler victory with goals from Smyth, Izzy, Horcoff and Smith!

3-1 Oil. Calgary's overconfidence will be their downfall.

it would be an interesting game, oilers lose if they play the way they have but if they play with menace and finish this game would be a close cracker of an affair. Flames are right now playing solid 60 minute hockey full of effort and that always makes a hard opponent.

4-1 Flamers.

Oilers have nothing going, Flames have everything. As an Oiler fan, I hate giving credit to rivals like the Nux or the flames but I have to give credit where credit is due. The Flames are winning with key injuries to their lineup. Some players have stepped up like Donovan and Lombardi. Contrast with the Oilers where the absence of Comrie in the lineup should have been huge for players like Chimera and Horcoff and they haven't taken advantage of it.

Anyways, Flames should handle the Oil pretty handly tonight.

I've said this before, but it bears repeating:
I really, really hate the Flames.

Go Oil!

Sorry guys, no friggen chance.

Anyone of you Oil fans care to make a wager? If the Flames win, the person I make the bet with will use a Flames logo in their avatar for one week, and if the Oilers win, I will use an Oilers logo for one week.

Anybody?

Looking at your avatar, I can see why you took the bet...for you it's a win-win scenario. One simple edit...

Haha very nice call.. I just saw the movie last night and it was quite fantastic! I really hope they use this new Smyth-Oates-Isbister line tonight.. I've been waiting for Izzy to get a chance beside Oates, he is a lot faster than most people think and I believe he might compliment him better than Torres did!

Iginla's an Oiler killer it seems. Especially when Salo is in net. Couple that with a strong Calgary forecheck, rock solid defense, and great goaltending... odds are pretty stacked against the Oil.

I'll refrain from making a prediction but I'm at least hoping to see some emotion. It's a big game for the players... not a great way to go into the holidays.

I'd tell them to forget about the points for tonight... just go out and play street hockey, relax and enjoy the tempo of the game.

They appear to be wound up pretty tight. Geez, my son's indoor soccer team plays much, much better when they relax and have fun instead of worrying about the outcome every minute.

I don't really have a lot of optimism on this one. Flames playing terrific hockey right now; Oilers appear fragile and despondent. Could be ugly; I'll go with 4-1 Calgary.

When's the last time the Flames were the hands down favorite for the Battle of A? Life is good

I am going to be quietly optimistic that the boys are going to be "up" for this one. No prediction.

Oilers 3-2

I'll stick with 4-2 Calgary with the empty netter
Calgary scorers will be.....Gelinas (2), Leopold, and McAmmond knowing my luck.
Edmonton will have Hemsky and Staois reply.
