Buff/EDM Proposal

With Buffalo going out to OTT today, it is obvious that they really missed the grit of Mckee and Greir, plus they are facing cap issues if they want to keep Drury and Briere.

Here is my suggestion:

Edmonton: trades Jason Smith and Fernado Pisani and the 15th pick overall(NYi pick)

Buffalo: trades Brian Cambell and Tim Connely.

Smith's contracts is very reasonable and Pisani is a top notch girtty 3rd line winger who has some touch.

Edmonton gets a puck moving Defenceman and a center who can step in and produce right now on the 2nd line.

Oiler fans should jump on it. Connolly would bloom in Edmonton, since he'd get some good minutes. And Campbell definitely fills a missing piece, at a decent cost.

Great move for the Oilers, sign it. But do the Sabres want it?

I'm still worried about Connolly's healthy and his concussion problem, it's almost a ticking time bomb when the next one will happen.

for the oilers this is a great move for several reasons
1)it gives us a puck moving defenseman
2)Sheds salary for snipers to play with hemsky
3)gives us a great scorer with connoly

But i don't think buffalo would ever do it.

Buualo trades etc

The only D-men gone from the Sabs may be Numminen, who may retire, and Kalinin, who the team seems to have given up on.

Forwards gone through UFA will be Zubrus and Briere with Drury being signed long term.

Other guys on the block may be Kotalik, Peters (who wants him) and Mair.

Miller's contract should be renegotiated to a longer term. He was a god!

Smith, Moreau, and a 4th.

Hmm I wonder what exactly you propose to make the sabres a better playoff team without touching your core. This move does that while still improving your depth with a top 15 pick.

I love people who think your going to be able to pick up players who play a gritty style but aren't top flight offensive players for peanuts.

Well MR fogducker your team was eliminated today and I guarentee you will see a deal just like this one at one point this summer becuase your team was exposed as soft this year.

the problem with that deal is we are giving up good quality gritty players that every team needs and getting back stuff we just don't need. We have an ubumdance of youth and picks but need more proven players.

Buff needs to clear room on the payroll to keep their core together.

their defence is their strenght but need a hard hitting d-man.

I am pretty sure Cambell and Smith are a wash.

Connely for Pisani and a 1st seems pretty fair to me.

I mean really both Cambell and Smith are ufa's after this season and Connely's big money years are just coming up.

the sabres will need to carve some 3 million dollar players if they want to keep briere or Drury.

Pisani + 1st for Connolly isn't fair to me, though; Connolly is signed for 2 more years at $2.9 mil, so I'm not quite sure what the "big money years" thing is. I'd give the edge to Campbell over Smith in trade value, too.

The Sabres don't need to dump 3 mil if they want to keep Drury or Briere, only if they want to keep Drury and Briere, and if they do that guys like Spacek and Kotalik will go, not Campbell and Connolly.

You'd have to start with Torres/Lupul, Smith, good prospect and 15th overall to even try and get Vanek/Campbell out of Buffalo.

I'd even hesitate on Soupy, though I would pull the trigger eventually. Eventually as in about 5 minutes.

Though the Sabres have better offensive players than the Oilers, both teams need to keep their gritty/grinding players.

Why do people want Connolly in Edmonton? We need a shooting C and he sure isn't it...
