$4.99M, you know the Flyers would do that in a heartbeat. Buffalo would be in a tight spot. Oh well if the Sabres couldn't beat Carolina in 05, or Ottawa in 06, they do need to make a few changes.

and $7M says Briere welcome to Philly.

Going a bit OT, but Reiger and Ruff both need new contracts, correct?

Does Reiger have to be signed before any offers can be made to the players?

That's ok, I'd be more than happy to keep a guy that would be by far your best offensive threat.

Can we get Brier to give Gomez a call and a nice talking to? Seriously, good for him. It is refreshing to hear when it's not all about the money.

For the record, the Predators have never in their franchise's history iced a gamebreaker like Briere is, at this point in his career. There's not many players who have scored more big goals than Danny in the last 2 years.

What?

It's only about 80%

If Briere gives up money to stay in Buffalo, then good for him. It would be nice to see some guys show some loyalty to their team rather than jump at their chance at a desperate team giving a huge payday.

Surprised more people aren't bringing that up (or else I missed it).

You (and others) certainly missed the part where it was explained that a deal wasn't struck because Regier refused to budge on the length of the deal, rather than the money...

Chain, don't make me re-bump that BRIERE vs. KARIYA thread.

I'm sure there are some classic quotes in there, signature material I bet.

its funny how people act like this is a video game and they can just pick a player from buffalo (Vanek,Briere,Drury) and just think they can get them..

Vanek isnt going anywhere, Briere and Drury would both walk before Vanek does..

anyway if Briere took less money I would have a lot of respect for him..

If you knew anything about why he went to arbitration and why he took the one year offer than that comment wouldn't have been made.

Daniel wanted long term. The prices were the same that he was asking and the team was offering but they had four years on the table and Danny wanted 5. He seen how is past was with other teams and how he and his family never knew basicly when they would have to move. They found a community they like and want long term. Definately not a lot to ask for IMO.

If Buffalo is willing to give him 5 years adn Drury each 5 year deals than we should be able to keep both.

Briere with 5 years at 5.8 per year cap hit and Drury with 5 years and a 4.8 per year cap hit.

Vanek can have the 3 year 4.0 million dollar cap hit and all Darcy needs to do is make a few trades. Or he could just start Waiving guys like Spacek, even if he is claimed you save 1.67 million on on one of the 3 mentioned. Paetsch could EASILY do the role Spacek was in this year and more than likely better at about .7 for a cap hit.

Buffalo is in good shape right now and has ALOT of options moving forward.

"I like it here. We like the community. We've made it our home, even in the off-season," he said. "Yeah, that's worth some money to stay here. But I'm just looking for it to be fair."

Do you think he's being genuine?

If so, what do you think he would settle for?

If Briere would settle for $6M or less that gives them a legit shot at signing both captains IMO.
If he said why won't he be sincere? The key is ones definition of what is fair. Fair to him may not be viewed as fair by the team.
