MSG In-game video

Quick question to those who went to games regularly this season:

Starting with the St. Pat's game... they started playing a song, accompanied by the Rangers logo with shamrocks on GardenVision.

It goes something like "R-a-n-g-e and R and S..." something, something "and as if you might have guessed."

It sounds like some kind of older Irish traditional song... but I have a feeling it might have been lifted from Glasgow Rangers. Which would be a little insulting if true, considering they played it on St. Pats! lol

Anyone know what this song is?

You're confusing two different screens, I think. One, the one with the shamrocks, played "The Irish Washerwoman," a very famous double jig that I think is out of copyright. The other thing, with the letters spelling the word "Rangers," I don't know what that is, but I know what you're talking about. The person to ask is Rangers music coordinator Ray Castoldi. He is great. And definitely answers fan emails.

I've heard that song a few times. I think it's from about the 1930s It's pretty amusing. But I have no idea where they actually got it from.

On St. Pat's, you're right. Good memory.
But a few games after that they played it again with the Shamrocks.
Then in Game 6 (or Game 4?) they played it again with the letters and no shamrocks.

My dad (a right-off-the-boat guy) was with me for Game 4 of the ATL series, and was waiting to hear them play "...Washerwoman" for Callahan's goals. Unfortunately they didn't play it then.

Do you by chance happen to know Ray Castoldi's email address? Is it like all Garden emails? first.last@thegarden.com

Yep. You didn't hear it from me.

"Raymond," though.

There's two pro soccer teams in Glasgow... Rangers and Celtic.
This is incredibly over-simplifying it, but thru most of their history, Rangers have been associated with the Protestant/Anti-Irish part of the city... while Celtic have been associated with the Catholic/Irish immigrant part of the city.

For the majority of their existence, Glasgow Rangers had rules against signing Irish and/or Catholic players, and only relaxed the rule in 1989.

To the credit of both teams, the secterianism has dropped off considerably, though there is still some hatred on both sides.

Yeah, he's a cool guy. I'll assume it wasn't he who picked the song.

Ray Castoldi is a great guy. Last season I wrote to him during the olympics asking him what was the song the Rangers took the ice to (at the time it was "Sexlines are Expensive Comedy" by Drive-by Argument..they still played it once in a while at games last season) and he got back to me very quickly.

The New York Rangers and Glasgow Rangers should form an alliance of some sort. Both have the best names, colors, arena/stadium, and fans in their respective sports.

some video of the Glasgow Rangers supporters
