QUOTE
Dave Scatchard had gotten everyone in a spirited mood when he scored off his skate 3:54 into the second period. But equally fortunate goals into empty nets by Handzus and Mark Recchi negated that lucky Islanders goal and let the air out of the 13,888-strong crowd, of which "hundreds" were donned in red jumpers and fake white hair.

A lot of that fake fur was pulled out of place, though.

During the first intermission, the promoters thought it was a good idea to have all those free Santas to parade onto the ice. So down they came in semi-orderly fashion, until two of the Santas stripped off their suit tops to reveal that most hated of icons in this Islanders’ den if iniquities -- Rangers jerseys.

Boos soon replaced the caroling in the Coliseum air, and a few Santas took it upon themselves to right these two unsainted imposters’ wrongs. So the guys wearing those Rangers jerseys were jumped, bringing yellow-jacketed security bees buzzing onto the ice while the ArenaVision showed a little kid dressed as Santa joining mom, dad and friends in trying to punch the Rangers Clauses’ beards off.

"Merry Christmas," said Jeremy Roenick.

on a night middle school carolers were booed by the rowdy Coliseum fans

oh come on, I figured it be best to mention this here it doesn't deserve it's own topic but couldn't they just be respectful and cheer? I could understand if it was Roseanne but kids...

I agree, boos are rather rude
If the performance was bad, why cheer? I could understand if they were elementary school kids in the range of 5-7 years or something, but these are middle school kids...the cuteness factor can only carry you so far
then again, I find most kids between the ages of 8 and 17 annoying anyways, so I might be biased

"even a youngster, who couldn't have been older than 10, was seen pulling a Pavel Bure jersey over one fellow's head."

Video or pictures, THERE MUST BE SOMETHING.

This report, on the ************* Board, from a fan who was at the game (excerpted):

"Between the first and second they let them parade on the ice, (from the zamboni entrance to the Islanders ice entrance door). It was absolutely hilarious. First of all it looked like half of the Santa were into the Christmas cheer a little early. Then they started to bellyflop all over the place. Security kept trying to round them up and push them toward the exit. One guy even slid along the ice head first into the side boards....The PA announcer was going nuts. Kept yelling over the loud speaker 'Any Santa's fighting or acting disorderly will be ejected from the Coliseum.' He must have said it 9 or 10 times."

Has to be one of the funniest stories of the hockey season.

As bad as it was, THANK GOD it didnt happen in Philly.

I shudder to think what would have happened if someone tried that with a Devils Jersey in the WC.

People are still saying we're nuts for throwing snowballs at Santa during that Eagles game.

Hell some Raider fans stabbed a Chargers fan in San Deigo, after a game they had last year....now thats a scary rivalry.

A Giants fan killed a Dodgers fan in the parking lot after a game last year.

This is sad.

My 3 favorite sports teams are the
Flyers
Raiders
SF Giants

And what three teams got mentioned here as side notes for bad fan behavior?
