The Official "Koivu Rules" Thread

I, for one, am sick of all the negativity directed towards Koivu lately so I’d thought I’d start a Koivu appreciation thread. No negative bull****tt that someone heard from their girlfriend's cousin or read on RDS allowed.

Koivu is not:
-jealous of Ribs or trying to hold him back.
-unhappy being on the point on the PP
-going to be traded for Peca.

Koivu is:
-Our best centre and our best overall skater. He’s the leader of our team and is the best player on the ice on most nights and makes players that play with him better.

I love watching Koivu play and I hope he spends his entire career in Montreal and wins many Cups doing so.

Who’s with me?

Koivu Rules!

add:

- He has been a PPG player since that game in Vancouver

- Despite all the injuries, illness and crappy linemates, he has a 0.8 PPG career total

I agree. I love Koivu
I'd still love a huge first line center, and have Koivu play second line. It'd help the Habs, and it'd help Koivu produce more. Right now, he's the main focus of other teams when they play us. Get the pressure off him, and I think he can put up a ppg season.

Mike Ribeiro will never be as good as Saku Koivu.

He is the man. The day he is traded, is the day our team forfeits any chance at a Stanley Cup.

No doubt, Koivu is the best player on this team.

Had he been healthy since the start of the year he'd probably be in the top 20 in scoring.

17 points in 22 games.

Had 0 points in his first 5 games. So, he's been averaging a point a game since then.

AMEN

Saku has 17 points in his last 17 games, and he's not at his best IMO. When he's gonna get his speed and all his moves back (like in the training camp, he was flying on the ice), he's really gonna rack up points. I love his courage and style.

Koivu Rules....

Koivu is a god in my books.

By far the best player on the team. Will be leading the team in scoring by mid january and won't look back.

I like to see he has about 6 goals in his last 8 games, I think he will reach 20 this season. Ribiero can't even shake a stick at Saku Koivu.

Anyone notice that we have been playing way better hockey (the record proves it) since Saku came back, that my friends is no coincidence.

Unbiased Canadian

I am agreeing here... Captain K is the best player in Montreal!

On top of this, he is our best leader, scorer, and player!!!

A first line player makes others around them play better, like Koivu does when he plays with Zednik, Bulis, Ryder... whomever is fortunate enough to play on his line in an evening.

This guy is the heart and soul of this team, and it's about time it's realized throughout Habland...

Captain Krunch is here to stay!!! I cannot picture # 11 on any other team, wearing anything else other than the blessed CH... He deserves the cup more than anyone on the team... This is why I know he will be the one to win it for us (as Captain!!!)

Koivu is the best player on this team and our only draft pick that has surpassed expectations when drafted. His fireball style is not common around the league and his presence on ice is always felt even when he doesn't have his best games. Trading him would be a mistake to put it simply.

Ribeiro is faster then Koivu «------

Since arriving in Montreal Koivu has shown perseverance and dedication that most of us can only hope to demonstrate. I hope that he stays with the Habs for the duration of his career.

Once the opposition starts playing their best checking line against someone else, we'll know. Unless Gainey signs one whopper of a FA, that won't be for a long time. Until then Koivu is the leader and MVP of this team, no question.

Hopefully, whichever line Ribiero is centering can continue the good work remove some of pressure from #11. We have had a two man show (Koivu/Zed) on offense for too long.

I couldn't agree more. If Koivu ever gets traded, I'll go on a killing frenzy.

my favorite player in the NHL hands down... anyone recall the hit he laid in the playoffs against carolina (stepped behind the carolina net and levelled some d-man... gave him a bloody nose with a clean check), or that goal where he picked the puck of Weekes' pads and then roofed it on him??

Even recently he's been amazing on the ice... a consumate leader. His community work is fantastic too. Great guy! (nice too... met him a few years back)

I'm with ya! Koivu all the way! I don't want to say anything negative about Ribeiro, we need him too, but I think it's plainly obvious to anyone with half a brain that Koivu is the heart and soul of the team and the most important player in terms of offensive production .. With Captain Koivu in the line-up, we'll win lots of games. Without him, not quite so many. And yes, I hope he never gets traded, and wins a Cup for Montreal (it CAN happen!), and yes, he's not just a great hockey player, he's also one of the good guys.

Yes, that hit was on Josef Vasicek actually (a big man himself). It was after Vasicek cross checked him earlier in the shift.

That's an aspect of Koivu's game that I've long enjoyed; his competitive spirit, and mentality to always take numbers and pay them a visit later in the game. It seems when Koivu's on his game he'll find a target opponent who he starts despising. He'll take a cheapshot at them, then become furious if they retaliate. A good example tonight was Kwiatkowski who Koivu initiated the physical play/cheapshot work early on, and became increasingly angry any time Kwiatkowski retaliated. Great stuff. Fiery nature and warrior mentality that I hope rubs off on some of the younguns.
