Prospects who need to be signed by midnight(5/31/07)

With midnight apporching....It looks like the Ducks will have to make a decision on several players or they can either re-enter the draft for become free agents.

Forbsey can fix any of my mistakes but I think its junior players who were drafted in 2005, college players not signed by the time they were done with their senior season or 2003 on college players.

Center - Matt Christie
Defenseman - Kyle Klubertanz
Defenseman - Ville Mantymaa

I think these are the only three.

Janne Pesonen, Jason Bailey and Matt Auffrey need to be signed by next season.

Klubertanz will probably be signed after his senior season next year.

Christie will probably end up like Dirk Southern and be invited to the Ducks camps and end up with their ECHL affiliate.

Mantymaa is not going to be signed.

Why wouldn't you sign Christie...he was very impressive in Portland this year.

NCAA players have until August 15th after their graduation.
I believe Korsunov's deadline is tonight as well.

While wildcat was right about Auffrey, it is worth noting that Auffrey cannot return to junior hockey next season and will have to make the jump to somewhere. Basically, Anaheim is an interesting position, as they have his rights for another season, but he *should* go pro this year. An AHL deal with Portland might be an answer if they don't want to give him an NHL deal yet.

Finally, Bailey has another two seasons before he needs to be signed. For NCAA players, no matter if they leave or not, they are the drafting team's property until August 15th after their four years are over. So in Bailey's case (leaving midway through his second year), his class will graduate in the spring of 2009 and he won't have to be signed until August 15th of 2009.

I would tend to believe then if Auffrey can't go back to jrs then he would sign an AHL/ECHL deal like Southern. As for Christie, I have thought that the Ducks would have signed him. He's played well in Portland and show a lot of spunk.

Like I mentioned, Christie does have until the 15th of August to be signed. It's possible the Ducks are waiting to see how the beginning part of the free agent season (and negotiations with some RFAs) goes before offering him a contract.
