If the Oilers organization wanted to make more money, one thing they can do is put a sponsor's logo on their jersey rather than the team logo. Would that be selling out? Hell yeah, but they'd make some great cash. The publicity alone would provide great coverage for the sponsor. Soccer teams already do it. And the Oilers really need the money. Stupid idea? Perhaps, but something worth thinking about.

I don't think the league would let them do it, or it would already be happening, like in nearly every other league.

its a good idea but have you actualy seen a jersey from Europe with a zillion different sponsor logos on it? the players are walking bilboards...well I guess they are anyway cause the Oiler logo is a licenced trademark but thats understandable....I have been up since 630 so pardon the rambling lol

the ingenious part of the European Jerseys with ads etc is that not only do the teams get paid by the sponsors, but the fans also buy more jerseys because the sponsors change, or change the look of their ads on the jerseys, and then (some) fans want to get the new jersey in addition to the old one they had.

One of the great things about our hockey jerseys - as opposed to Europes - is that we don't have a lot of company logos on it. It's bad enough that we have advertising on the boards now - we don't want them on our jerseys too! This is a stupid idea.

If anything - we should be working to remove advertising from our landscapes - not promoting more of it. Sure it provides revenue but it also pollutes the image of the team we love. Besides - if we do it, everyone else will, and where will that get us? The same spot we are now.
