It is tempting to sign a guy like Yashin...

to a low contract (if he's willing to do so after raking in some $17MM) as you can imagine him finding his touch playing with Jagr (not on a second line). Of course, he is exactly the type of person (and attitude) this team is shying away from and the Rangers should stay that course (bringing in quality character guys and trying to build a TEAM that's built on individuals, not a TEAM that is individuals.

The very idea of Yashin as a Ranger makes me want to vomit.

I agree; let Don Maloney sign Yashin and let TGO deal with his lack of enthusiasm and coach killing attitude. I will stop watching NYR is Yashin ever wears NYR sweater.

But for a veteran laden team with strongly established leadership (Detroit comes to mind) he might be worth a look. He's still an extreemly talented player and if you put him in an enviroment where he's a secondary player then I think he could be productive. The key would be getting him to sign a contract that you wouldn't mind cutting if you had too.

But again, not the Rangers.
One must decide what kind of team the Rangers are before drawing any conclusion. If we are still in rebuilding mode, then Yashin is a waste of money. That is exact mistake NYI has made. If we are Cup Contender, then veteran laden team with strongly established leadership is given and use of Yashin as secondary player would be fruitful.

Regardless of which path they take signing a self centered, me first guy like Yashin can only hurt the team. Very rarely have players run so quickly away from playing with a guy. First Peca now Smyth want no part of Yashin. Wake up people, thats got nothing to do with his contract. Its got alot to do with how he plays the game and what he brings to the ice. If heart and soul type of players like Peca and Yashin don't want him on their team it supports everything I've always thought about Yashin. This guy is a loser and putting him on your team will end up killing your team. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUY AT ALL COSTS!

Look at the team who just won the Stanley Cup, last night.

You see a Yashin-type in their lineup?

Look at the types of players and character ....up and down the roster.

I personally see him signing in Washington.

He plays well in small markets in which there's no pressure to perform.

*Plus, they could use a cheap pivot with some scoring touch to compliment Ovechkin and Semin. I bet he could put up 30-40-70 there.

Would you guys take a shot at the enigmatic Yashin, who will undoubtedly come at a severe discount, to fill the 2nd line center role? Sounds like a very interesting option to me.
drop the candy and step away from the child!!! help for you is on the way!

Yash wil probably sign with ATL and play with Kovalchuk. ATL also needs a center badly.

FYI, if you listen to "this week in hockey" over on msg.com the Maven thinks Yashin will end up a Ranger. pretty much for all the reasons i figured the rangers would look at him.

*sigh*

oh god the maven is old and clueless to begin with, I dont think Sather would do it. My bet he goes after Comrie or Lang.

im not sure sather does it either, but i think he will take a serious look at him, despite what everyone seems to say and how stupid they think those of us who think that are.

yashin seems to fit a lot of criteria that sather will be looking at. high upside, low risk, low cost, etc.

i DONT want him, but i think he will be given a serious look.

Yashin will go the Florida with his old coach from Ottawa-Jacques Martin

Could go to Atlanta or Washington

Yashin can work on his tennis game in Florida

Or he will go to LA.Lombardi apparently has a thing for Yashin

i think sather would take lang or comrie before Yashin. Lang has history with his friends and Jagr does have some say I believe. Lang was great on the Pens with Straka as well. I can see Lang or Comrie as Rangers on July 1. That is what I predict.

Yashin is one of the most overrated players in the NHL for the last 10 years, maybe we should bring Daigle back too!

Well....it would mean that Carol Alt would be back in the garden. She was the long-time answer to the question......."Who has the best seat at the garden?"
