Extending Blair Betts' contract was the...

worst move this club has made since the lockout.

They should bring up Dubinsky and let him play on the 4th line, but now the Rangers are stuck with Betts, whose only talent is winning faceoffs. Offensive wise, Betts is horrible.

What good is Dubinsky getting 5 minutes of icetime going to do for him?

Better 5 minutes on the NHL level then nothing at all.

What offense are you looking for from a 4th line? Didn't Betts score 10 goals? Exactly how much more are you looking for from 4th line role players?

Nothing like absolutes. I, for one, disagree with that assessment. Better major minutes in the AHL than 5 minutes on the 4th line in the NHL.

this is the worst thread since the lockout.

so Dubinsky gets Betts' 5 minutes ES per game, we're without our top PKer with no roster spot to replace him, and no have no defensively responsible center.

Blair Betts led all forwards in blocked shots with 98, 2nd place had 80.

P.S. your thread sucks.

Somehow, I'm thinking giving up a 3rd round pick for Ozolinsh and his $2.75 million is a lot worse than upping Betts for two years at $650,000 per.

It's amazing how some people are on this "4th line has to score" train. Calm down... Just because another team beats you, it doesn't mean you go and try to be just like them.

No 4th line is getting big time minutes as long as Jaromir Jagr is on this team. And it is extremely difficult to use the necessary cap space.

And it is extremely stupid to relegate Dubinsky to 4th line duty when the bottom line is that he's only going to get a few mins a night.

Ai yi yi.... HE LED NHL FORWARDS IN BLOCKED SHOTS, and I don't know statistics for 4th line goal scorers, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was somewhere in the top 20 in that department as well (albeit with some of the most stonehanded linemates)... He was a HUGE reason we had one of the top defenses in the last half of the season... If anything, Betts is probably the most unheralded and underrated player on the Rangers...

You can't expect 4th liners to score 20 goals, and Betts did his job PERFECTLY

I made a thread a while back about how we can clean up the immaturity on this board. Apparently, this kid didnt get the memo.

Betts has played an enormous role in faceoffs, blocked shots, and penalty kills

We all see how Prucha is affected by a decrease in confidence due to less ice time, no need to do the same to another young 2nd line prospect in Dubinsky

First off, Dubinsky is better in the minors than getting 5 minutes a night in the NHL.

Second, the Rangers are trying to win a Stanley Cup before Jagr retires. A player like Betts--who is defensively responsible--is very much needed.

Plus, if Betts becomes expendable for whatever reason, he's very much tradeable.

Betts stays for now.

yeah, that thread sucked too.

I'm very mature when the topic deserves it, but this is a topic that's been beaten to death, and is such a non-issue, IMO.

and you say we're stuck with Betts. couldn't be further from the truth.

i believe it was on of the more prudent moves they made. he is SOLID on the PK, SOLID on faceoffs, chips in 15 points, is a great clubhouse guy and is on the 4th line. why would you stress this move so much? the 4th line is not where future 2nd line centers want to get 5 minutes a night..

ahh look like we're back to the old ranger ways, where if a guy doesnt score at least 20 goals a year or has the ability to knock the crap out of some1, he is worthless. Please, go away. Don't ever post again.

Who needs role players? Who needs penalty killers? That's not how you win Cups. Just ask the Ducks.

The only thing he said that was immature was the "p.s. your thread sucks" quote (sorry 31). Other than that he was fine. Yet, you decide to respond to his post. Not any of the others who gave statistical information disproving your 'theory'.

Betts may be one of the best 4th line defensive forwards and is underrated. How many games did we win by 1 goal? what was our PK %? These are attributed to the play of Betts, and other 4th liners.

no worries. it was probably unnecessary, but I was getting really tired of defending Betts, and to say that extending his contract was the worst move made since the lockout really struck a nerve.

Dubinsky better be pretty damn good on the PK if you're thinking about replacing Betts.

Betts is needed on this team....

If the thread starter wanted to bring up a good point (I mean between this guy and Jort...I know..shut up SoS but come on!!!) he would say that having Matt Cullen signed for 3 more years was a mistake....That's the spot Dubinsky should be vying for this training camp...BUT these things work themselves out...

The biggest mistake since the lockout was easily the Ozolinsh trade...(which I liked at the time)

Hey anybody hear anything new on Hartnell?

Me too brother, I don't know how many times I've had to type the shot blocking bit to defend him... Betts is a coaches dream...

I'm sorry, but he's right. If you honestly think that Dubinsky should be put on the 4th line and get 5 minutes a night you just didn't bother to even think before you posted this.

Betts is one of the better 4th line guys around. He is a great PKer, likes to block shots, etc.

No idea why you wouldn't want him around. Absolutely no idea.
