Top 30 Free Agents

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/topfas.html

5. Chris Drury, C
Arguably the best two-way center available this summer, Drury isn't a lock to return to Buffalo and could sign elsewhere in July.
2006-07: 77GP | 37G | 32A | 69PTS
Est. 2007-08 Salary: $6,000,000 SPECULATED TEAMS OF INTEREST :Buffalo, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington, Toronto, Chicago, San Jose, Nashville, Colorado, Montreal, NY Rangers, Los Angeles

6. Kimmo Timonen, D
Probably the best all-around defenseman available this summer, Timonen's first choice is to stay in Nashville.
2006-07: 80GP | 13G | 42A | 55PTS
Est. 2007-08 Salary: $5,250,000 SPECULATED TEAMS OF INTEREST :Nashville, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, NY Rangers, Philadelphia, Edmonton, New Jersey

8. Ryan Smyth, LW
Arguably the best power forward available this summer, Smyth will be listening to offers come July 1 and that could drive his price up.
2006-07: 71GP | 36G | 32A | 68PTS
Est. 2007-08 Salary: $6,000,000 NY Islanders, Edmonton, Toronto, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Vancouver, Colorado, Calgary, Detroit, NY Rangers

9. Jason Blake, RW/LW
Blake's eye for the net will have plenty of teams calling come July 1. The dollars should more than double for him this summer.
2006-07: 82GP | 40G | 29A | 69PTS
Est. 2007-08 Salary: $4,200,000 NY Islanders, NY Rangers, Vancouver, Atlanta, Montreal, Dallas, Toronto, St. Louis, Edmonton

23. Scott Hartnell, LW/RW
Hartnell is slowly evolving into a solid power forward and if the Predators aren't able to re-sign him, someone will scoop him up quickly.
2006-07: 64GP | 22G | 17A | 39PTS
Est. 2007-08 Salary: $3,000,000 Nashville, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, Edmonton, Montreal, NY Rangers, Pittsburgh, Boston, Florida

I hope we dont sign Jason Blake, he is already 33 and overrated 3rd liner.

The top 30 might be correct, by the order they put them in is a complete joke.

It would be pretty great if we nabbed Timmonen and Drury and even Hartnell. We could plug a lot of holes, really.

Apparently the Islanders have no interest in signing free agents. That prediction list seems like a farce to me.

id like Timmonen but would rather get hannan or sarich, we can use some grit on defense. timmonen would help our pp that is for sure.

Do we really want Drury at his estimated price tag of 6m-7m?

No offense, but 3rd liners don't usually score 28-40 goals.

A guy on his contract year does, however.

Jason Blake, realistically, is a 25-30 goal scorer. His one chance to rake in the dough was this year and he took advantage of it. So good for him.

You are correct Jon, but my point was that he is more of a second line player than an overrated third as the poster who started this thread referred to him as. I don't believe he will score 40 again, but 30, maybe 35 would be realistic.

id love to have drury as our second line center but realistically its not gonna happen and i dont want to pay our second line center $7million a year. No thanks. resign nylander for $4mil and a 2 year deal. is shanny wants to continue to play resign him at a couple million for 1 year. I dont know if most of you are against this but id love to grab comrie for 2-3mil a year for a year or two hes still young i think hes 26-28yo hes quick fast can play some d and really pass the puck. something that we as a team as missed. Hed be a good 2nd line player to put in between prucha and shanny. If shanny doesnt resign i say we get hartnell. trade mara or malik, i still think mara can turn into a good player and we can get more for malik. Sign Sarich or hannan for a good multi year deal and our team will look pretty good to go deep in the playoffs.

Straka Nylander Jagr
Prucha Comrie Shanny
Avery Cullen Callahan
(Hossa/hollwegg) Betts Youngster

Rosie Staal
Girardi Tyutin
Mara Sarich/Hannan

Hard to be an overrated 3rd liner when he would have been the leading goal scorer and fourth leading scorer on the Rangers last season.

Usually the overrated 3rd liners are the guys you tend to covet.

I like Hartnell, too bad he cant play Center, I want a true center, not a guy who can play center. So that leaves Dury who I like, but I don't love.

what is shocking in this line up is how underpaid Nylander is! its not like he is a rookie.
and he is right firing his agent. I'd do the same when looking at this line up.

Nyls will be looking far north of 4.5! Are we ready to pay that kinda money?
5-6 is my guess!

just compare what their salary predictions are:

Slava Kozlov 4m 80 pts
hartnell 3m 39 pts
Sykora 3.5 m 53 pts
tkachuk 4.0 58 pts
Bertuzzi 4.0
Blake 4.2 69 pts
Smyth 6.0 68 pts
Drury 6.0 69 pts
gomez 7.0 6o pts

Nylander 4.2 83 pts

Jagr pay should be an individual salary cap for the Rangers. No one should make more that JJ. For that reason Drury, Gomez will go elsewhere. Nyls will get his 4.5 million or so. The UFAs Sather will sign will make no more then Jagr. 2C could be Yashin or someone else from 2nd tier with price range 4.3 -4.8 mill.

Nobody will make more than Jagr. They give us a bigger cap hit, but they won't make any more. Thats almost guaranteed.

That fourth period website is screwy. It has Stumpel as an RFA when he is an UFA.
Sign Stumpel.

fwiw - I'd go for Drury.

Local kid (CT) - still has years of service and could become the no 1 center
if / when Nyls slows down. I love his work ethic and this would rub off on the team.
this is what would make him imo preferrable to Gomez who is younger.

but given that Jagr is the cap drury signing might be problematic.

could drury's contract be back loaded.....so that when Jags and Nyls are gone
drury gets his goodies?

This is my offseason plan:

RFAs:

Lundqvist to 4.5M
Avery to 1.5M
Prucha to 900K
Hossa to 700K

TOTAL: 7.6M

We have 26M committed to salary right now. With the RFA signings, we'd be at 33.6M.

I also tried to overestimate a bit on the guys like Prucha and Hossa. I also think that Avery gets from 1.5-2M on a 1 or 2 year contract

UFA situations:

*In these scenarios we'd most likely have to dump a guy like Malik or Mara -- both of which would be very movable and not that hard to find a bidder for*

PHP Code:
If we keep Nylander and Shanahan...

C Gomez/Briere/Drury 7M
W Shanahan 3.5M
C Nylander 4M
D Timonen 5M

Total
19.5M

End Salary
19.5 36.6 - ~3M = ~50.1M
PHP Code:
If we lose Nylander and Shanahan...

C Gomez/Briere/Drury 7M
C Stumpel
/Comrie 3M
W Hartnell 4M
D Timonen 5M

Total
19M

End Salary
19 33.6 - ~= ~49.6M
PHP Code:
If we keep Nylander but lose Shanahan...

C Gomez/Briere/Drury 7M
C Nylander 4M
W Hartnell 4M
D Timonen 5M

Total
20M

End Salary
20 33.6 - ~= ~50.6M
PHP Code:
If we lose Nylander but keep Shanahan...

C Gomez/Briere/Drury 7M
C Stumpel 2.5M
W Shanahan 3.5M
D Timomen 5M

Total 18M

End Salary
18 33.6 - ~= ~48.6M
