Wild signed Lakos?

According to Newspapers in Austria the Minnesota Wild signed hulking austrian defenseman Andre Lakos.

Can anyone confirm that?

Lakos is a monster. I rememeber him from many world championships in austrian team. I wonder why he havent played nhl till now. Drafted in third round, several AHL seasons. Definitely Chara type of player. Whether he can contribute something to the team is questionable. He was playing austrian league which doesnt belong to the top leagues in europe.

I was wrong. Lakos's current team is Farjestad in swedish league which IS top league.

yes, orf.at and hockeyfans.at are also reporting this.

Lakos played last season in Austria, he only signed the contract with Färjestads for next season.

I think if a coach manages to motivate Lakos, he can be an asset to an NHL team. When he decides to hit and play a simple brand of hockey, he is capable of playing on a bottom pair in the NHL, imo. He will even fight, if necessary.

He is a guy i like a lot, just for his raw tools and talent alone, but most of the time he will just leave you wanting more, unless he decides to really show up. Will be interesting to see what he can do in camp.

Intriguing... Sounds like someone Lemaire would like, he is running out of projects to work with.

How's his skating?

I found two different heights of lakos. Its either 6.06 or 6.6. In TV he looked more like 6.6 guy.

6.06 and 6.6 are the same thing. 6.06 dosn't meant 6 feet and 6/10 of an inch

i think he is a very good skater. of course, at his size it looks a bit awkward, but he is quick and effective, also a good backward skater.

he has improved his strength it seems and that has made him better in that department over the last 2-3 years i'd say.

6.06 and 6.6 shouldnt be the same. I found some cm/ft convertor and 6.06 is aprox. 185cm and 6.6 is aprox. 201cm. However, I am not too much familiar with US units.

did he improve his game lot during the last years ?
because when i remember 5 years back he had big problems even to crack Utah's top6 (after Dallas acquired him from NJ)

i think that deal kinda broke his motivation to fight his way through the minors after battling for 2-3 years in Albany for a spot in New Jersey.

That said, i think him being unable to crack Utah's top six was because of a lack of motivation than a lack of ability.

Like I said earlier, if a coach manages to light a fire under his b*tt, he could still make it and be a decent player.

Well, i wish Lakos the best, but i think his hockey talents are very raw in the skating and stickhandling departement. Perhaps he could be a part time sixth defender, not more, but i honestly don't believe it.

Two things that I'll always link to Andre Lakos:

When playing for Austria he seems to have a knack for going to the penalty box when the game is one the line.

He has a nasty shot from the blue line. Not fast, but good to redirect. It's odd to see such a big player hit the puck so "soft".
