Smyth vs Staios

Just watched the local news here in E-town and they had a camera at todays Oiler practice. Seems Ryan Smyth and Steve Staios had to be pryed apart by the boys as they were ready to drop the gloves....interesting. Maybe this'll pull the boys together for the Canucklehead game tonight. Nothing like a little in-fighting...

It's also not the first time that Smyth has had a run-in with a teammate...anyone remember Smyth vs. Smith during last year's training camp?

Positive or negative, I guess we'll see soon enough.

I remember that.

Hopefully, Smyth and Staios' run-in will pull the team together.

Or unite them against the

"uhhh, I sure hope this pulls the team together, I have no idea what's going on in my dressing room, I liked the effort they showed in going at their own teammates, and that my leaders are out there confronting each other instead of working together, I'm not so sure they were in position defensively though.......(a question is heard about scoring).....what's that then? I don't know about that, we don't have to worry about that, we just have to worry about winning........(Mike York is heard saying: You can't win without scoring Craig......).......What? we used to do that all the time didn't w.......oh.......ummmmm........effort"

Coach.

This thing doesn't look good on any level, but hopefully a positive comes out of it somehow. Beating Vancouver in Vancouver would be rather nice......I just don't like our odds.

See? not only could I coach, I could do dead-on amusing impressions to keep the mood light on the bench!

I hope this doesn't cause a larger rift in the Oilers dressing room..they need to grow closer together...not further apart.

What's up with Smitty?

This is the second time now. Not saying he's the reason for it.......but it's the second time he and another veteran have tried to come to blows.

Were they both "about" Smitty, or is Smitty pissed about others?

Who knows? Makes a guy wonder.....

Smyth scores on a pass from Staios...and the Oilers pound the Canucks...maybe this fight lit a fire for the Oilers?

Simple explanation really. Both of those guys care and play with emotion. Things were/are bad for the Oilers, and the practice was emotional.

Not the first or the last time something like that's happened.

Actually this is Smittys 3rd time doing this. Way back in the day he and Cujo got into it as well.

definitely seemed to light a fire underneath the team, good combination on the goal by smyth and who made that perfect pass, staios. aaaahhh all is forgiven.

its not really that far fetched to assume its all because of style and nothing to do with personality.

smyth is a crash the net type so if he's not doing that what else is he gonna do at practice? he certainly isnt going to do too much on the perimeter.

and think about the players he's gotten into it with. Two defenseman and a goalie, the same guys he'd run into if he crashes the net. it's not like he got into with say, Mike York or a forward.

just like the point of smyth is to crash the net, the point of the defenseman and a goalie is to keep the puck out which means you gotta run into smyth.

If fighting creates unity maybe they should be fighting the other team.
A bench clearing brawl should translate into a 10 game winning streak
