Is the answer possibly a sarcastically insulting remark to Flyers fans?

1982? pretty sure you got the wrong decade guy
the 7th overall pick in '82 was Ken Yaremchuk by Chicago Blackhawks
our first pick that year was Ron Sutter who turned out to be a pretty good player for us
maybe you should proofread your posts

you're right...The Flyers picked up Ron Sutter 4th overall in 1982.

Sittler was taken 7th overall in 1992...and as said previously, it was a huge bust, for sure!

Wasn't Sittler part of the Dejardin, Leclair trade?

No, that trade was Recchi and a 3rd for LeClair, Desjardins, and Gilbert Dionne.

That's right. Do you know what happened to Sittler then? Trade? Bust? What? His name came up recently and I can't remember why.

I don't know. He is the son of Darryl Sittler, maybe that has something to do with it.

(Oops I guess 192 was right, and no I wasn't trying to flame)

So here's the answer: Since, the WHA and NHL came together in 1980 (and started the NHL Entry draft in its current form), Sittler is the highest pick to never play an NHL game.

For the sake of fairness, I haven't included players from the 2000, 2001, 2002 or 2003 drafts, althought the following people could still beat or tie his feat: Lars Jonsson (Boston, 7th, 2000), Mikko Koivu (Minnesota, 6th, 2001), Kari Lehtonen (Atlanta, 2nd, 2002), Ryan Whitney (Pittsburgh, 5th, 2002), Thomas Vanek (Buffalo, 5th, 2003), Ryan Suter (Nashville, 7th, 2003).

When was this?

I remember seeing Sittler play against the Phantoms back in 99 I think. The main reason he never played a game afaik is that he stunk.
