I had a good chuckle when I read that the Leafs want to bolster their front office. Apparently Bowman met with Peddie to discuss things, but Scotty says he has no interest in going anywhere else. The report from the Toronto Sun also mentions that the three guys the Leafs are interested in are Bowman, Holland and Nill! `Poachers.
My favorite quote is this: It has become clear to some that the Leafs' hockey IQ -- to twist an old Peddie basketball quote -- needs to be increased.
Go steal Burke away from Anaheim. He's a true hockey genius....
"If you bring in Scotty Bowman, you're bringing maybe as good a hockey guy as there is in the world," Red Wings senior vice-president Jimmy Devellano said.
Devellano said he was "not aware" the Leafs had asked for permission to talk to Bowman, but others say Leafs had interest in Bowman, general manager Ken Holland and assistant GM Jim Nill.
Bowman, who is under contract to Detroit, says he is happy being part of its inner-circle.
"I'm set with Detroit," said the 73-year-old Bowman, who has won nine Stanley Cups as a coach, all of them since 1973.
"I like the team. I like the job. The Red Wings know my position. I told them, if anyone calls (for permission to talk), tell them I'm not interested."
I would imagine Bowman's job as "consultant" being pretty sweet.
Yeah, Scotty pretty much creates his own workload from what I understand. He's allowed to reside in Florida and serves as an Eastern Conference scout of sorts, but he's got no official responsibilities. And I'm sure the money is nice too.
Should we be surprised? We feel or have felt this way too. But, T.O. has never had a mind of their own. What to do in the 1990's? Maybe get Cliff Fletcher since he brought the Flames the '89 cup. Cliff Fletcher then immediately acquires Gilmour.

That's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more examples. Leafs, always looking for winning solutions from you guys or us or wherever.
So it appears pretty official that the Leafs were talking to Bowman. Any news yet on if they got permission? This might be a big bullet for Detroit to use against the Leafs as leverage for a vote for a move to the East and a new schedule.
