Would've been great if he actually showed up at the ceremony.

Yes it would, but he's recovering from eye surgery.

So judge if you will: i guess you must be a much better man than i am for you to look down on me like you do.
Cancer is one sunject I never joke about or even hint at a joke about it. My father died of it.

Common, the discomfort of a cataract surgery dissapears after a few days. It's been more than a month now.

Fact is we also don't know if it is or was that simple. Koivu had a major eye injury that caused the need for surgery. Maybe it isn't as simple as that.

And also, who the hell cares except some little nitpicker like you. How do you know he doesn't have a prior engagement. Maybe someone is getting married, maybe he has family in town, maybe something in his personal life stopped him from coming over.

Stop acting like the guy owes you something.

I was at the Awards ceremony. It started at 7:30 but wasn't televised until 8:00.

He wasn't there. His doctor accepted it on his behalf, the same doctor that treated Audette, Souray and many other Habs. He said that Koivu has some other charitable commitments in Finland. It was a great speech.

Oh, he looks SO happy! That looks like Rod 'SpeckOfLove' (Brindamour) right?
I wonder what narcotic will do that to your eyes...

Wow, did I say something negative about Koivu? He didn't show up, I'm dissapointed. So what? I'm a nitpicker right now. I don't remember making any harsh judgement or unfair criticism about Koivu. If by saying how I would have liked to see Koivu's face at the awards tonight, I'm a ****ing nitpicker alongside the Bergeron of this world, than so be it! Now you're pissing me off. You're the one taking it personal.

Someone should add that the King Clancy award goes to the best leader on and off the ice.

So, to those who question Saku Koivu's leadership skills....

SHUT THE **** UP.

SHUT THE **** UP.
The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is an annual award given to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.

Which is why a guy like Kelly Chase and Shjon Podein can win it before the Yzermans and Sakic of this world.

Quote:
Montreal Canadiens captain Saku Koivu accepted the King Clancy Memorial Trophy for leadership and humanitarian contributions to his community. Koivu's exemplary support of cancer treatment and research -- and, more particularly, his personal demonstration of courage as a cancer survivor -- is a source of inspiration and pride to his teammates as well as the many thousands of patients and their families who benefit from his generosity.
Which is probably why he won the award, not essentially for his leadership within the team. Whether he is a great leader or not, God knows. I think he is a good one. But we shouldn't use the King Clancy as a way to measure leadership. It would be ridiculous.

What does it have to do with being a first liner or not.

Its how you worded it. How you worded is not that you would of liked to see him there but as jab for not showing up.

As it appears, he had an obligation for a charity it Finland not like he ditched it like you seem to think.

Hmmm I still chose the topic to be what it should be; celebrating Koivu's accomplishment and contribution to this team and community.

The best parallel I can think of is Linden, who won the award a couple of times. Great leader on the ice, one hell of a humanitarian off the ice.

Despite what some may think, Koivu is a class act all the way and is deserving to have the honor to raise the Bell Center's first stanley cup.

Man you dont know how much i'd LOVE to see happen! I was there when they lost 11 games then only 8 games and then 10 games between 75 and 78.

It was expected that they would almost win them all. I surely want Koivu to raise the Cup in 2009, the 100th year of the Habs in the League!

People can think what they want about Koivu as a player or a captain but if anybody out there thinks he isn't a class act, I will literally throw down and fight them.

Hope him and the rest of the habs have a good summer and get back
