where there is smoke there is fire

The habs have smoke coming out their ears concerning the habs defence for 2007-8.

for those thinking the Sauray will be back, think again.
Emilin rumers that have him starting as a HAB this year.
Hamilton defence knocking at the door.
Possible Aucoin trade.
Thats a lot of smoke.
if fact thats a lot of defencemen at training camp, way too many.

I believe that if Emilin is signed and does announce he is starting for the habs next year, Gainey will start to deal at the draft.

Markov
Komi
Dandy
Streit
Boullion
Obryne
Emilin
Gorges
Cote
Jancevski
Aucoin ( maybe)

The writing is on the wall, Souray is gone...which in the big picture is good and bad...we wont miss his -28 but we will miss his PP points, and his leadership...

So we could see
Komi-Markov
Obryne-Emilin
Dandy-Aucoin
Streit

How is Dandy+Aucoin better than Dandouillon???
And how the hell is Streit 7th Dman?!?!? :|

O'byrne and Emelin haven't even played one NHL game, how are they supposed to be our 2nd pairing Dmen?

You're scarying me.

I'd love to see...

Komi-Markov
Streit-Emelin
Bouillon-Aucoin
(O'Byrne-Dandenault riding the pine)

It might be a lot of defencemen for training camp....but there are only probably 4 of them that are good NHL defencemen (Markov, Komisarek, Aucoin, Streit). The rest of them either can't cut it in the NHL anymore since the new rules rely on skill as opposed to clutching and grabbing or they haven't been given the proper opportunities to prove themselves.....which is the reason they go to camp and battle it out.
I think it is great to have some other defencemen to choose from besides Boullion and Dandenault. Now if we could just sign a couple of free agent defencemen and trade Dandoullion, we would be set.

I like Streit as a forward very much. He would be great on a checking line as has soft hands. Dandy isnt bad as a 7th man as he can skate like the wind and can be aggressive.

Aucoin is not a good nhl defensmen. Chicago fans keep telling me he was the worst D on the team and that he cant handle the new NHL. He is no better right now than Hatcher.

Dandy as a 7th d-man, fine, but not at 1.7-1.8 million. If you are paying that much to a #7, you are not managing your cap competently. So he either plays as a number 3-4, at his salary, which I think is WAY over his head, or he has to go so that some of his salary can go to to positions that see more important ice time than a #7 d-man.

I agree, but it sounds like he is not going to accept 4.5M that BG has offered...

Can we erase aucoin from the memory of the collectivity...everytime i open a thread with his name i throw up on my keyboard...READ MY LIPS(or fingers???) Aucoin is problems at 4m$ a year for 2 years. He sucks, he is overpaid and ALWAYS INJURED!!!!!!!!

Augroin we do not need!!!!Why are you sticked on him like that!!!you like problems that much???? There are other ways to get rid of samsonov without getting another team's trash. Buy samsonov out, send him to hamilton or play him.

Is this one of those Bouillon is God boards? He is by and far the worse defenseman the Habs have. Jettison his butt.

Aucoin WAS a good NHL d-man before his injuries.

We don't have too many defenceman coming into camp, just too many bad ones.

Markov and Komisarek are our only legitimage top four guys. Boullion and Dandenault, even if they bounce back with better seasons are 5/6/7 at best. Gorges probably belongs in the same category.

Streit was far more successful as a forward. Carbo used him there last year and I don't see any indication he'll change his mind.

Emelin, O'Byrne, Cote and Jancevski (both UFAs?) are fighting for the lone rookie d spot. Even if two made the team only one would play.

We need to replace Souray's minutes with a top-four defenceman who can play in his own zone. I can't see anyone under contract now doing it successfully.
