Value of Game Worn Jerseys

I have a chance to purchase a game worn Sidney Crosby autographed jersey for around $900. Is this a good deal? Can't find any on Ebay to compare it to. It's a # 87 jersey worn by sidney crosbey and autographed by him. The jersey is pressed in a glass frame and endorsed as authetic and numbered. From steiner sports framed by frameworth sports marketing pittsburgh penguins white jersey, signed in a gold marker this jersey weighs alot serial number is 017237 hologram comes with a certificate of authenticity from steiner sports.

Should I buy?

It's only $90? Something must be wrong with it...

Hockey memorabilia as an investment isn't worth it, even if it's Sidney Crosby. There are a ton of game worn jerseys out there.

If you're looking for decoration in a room, then go for it. I just wouldn't expect to get any money for it in 20 years.

I just got my jersey last week from Frameworth,It's not a pro jersey cause it's 900$ and I got the semi pro autographed for 575$ witch I gotta frame anyways so Pro or semi pro who cares. It's the nicest thing, Crosby as 1 of the nicest autograph since Wayne Gretzky

It will never be worth that much (at least in our lifetime). Something like half of his jerseys go on the market as game-worn jerseys. That makes a lot of jerseys over the course of a career. The only way to make things escalate in price is to make them rare.

Anyway, I would snap it up. It's only $90 and if you like it, buy it. Don't buy it with dollar signs in your eyes, though. If that's your intent, I'll recommend several very lucrative mutual funds that are way more secure than the sports memorabilia market.

I smell a scam...$90 is way too little. That jersey can is worth upwards of $800, and at auction it's gone for way more.

Since it's Crosby and autographed it must be around what the other guy said, about 800$. If I remember correctly, a Perezhogin Omsk game worn jersey with no autograph was worth about 150$ or 450$ (I know, big difference).

Wasn't that the one he wore when he won gold at the WJCs? I think the price goes way up if it was worn when something memorable happened (win gold, win a cup, score 500th goal, 1000th point, that kind of thing) but otherwise, for a regular season jersey, I can't see there being a jersey going for more than $5000, although I'm not an avid game worn jersey fan so I might be wrong. But from all the prices I have seen, only superstars jerseys when they accomplish something big go for giant sums of money. I saw the other day (can't remember where) that there was a Koivu game worn from the past season going for a bit over $1000 and a Kovalev one for $800 odd if that helps at all as a guide.

Edit - here we go, list of Habs game worn jerseys for the past season and their prices.

Edit 2 - After checking those prices in the link, does anyone else suspect that being a home town boy, Latendresse's jersey costs WAY more than other young players? Of course, if there is a market for something, prices will go up. But still, that's a lot for a rookie jersey. Almost twice as much as a Markov jersey.

like I said,I purchased a jersey last week for 500$ + taxes for the semi pro.The pro jersey Reebok and the fight strap was at 850$. Now add game worn and it's defantly worth much much more then 1000$

If it's an NHL auction for Cancer someone will pay over 20 000$ no doubt in my mind

Mind you, $90.00 for a jersey is still cheaper than getting it at the store, even if it is fake, you can clean off the sig.

ps
See if you can get a COA

Sounds really low, I remember two seasons back when a friend of mine Ben Guite played his first NHL game as a Bruin - to keep his jersey after the game he had to buy it and I believe it was in the $400 range because we chipped in.

Thats how much the jersey sells for not game worn.If it's proven to be game worn it's a very good price IMO and you should take it.

The Pro Jersey is sold 900$ + tax right now.His next signing session with Frameworth, his prices will go up big time. Now's the time to buy and thats why I bought mine last week
