Rangers FO thoughts

It appears as of right now the Rangers will likely split the Don Maloney duties between Gordie Clark and Jim Schoenfeld. Both men will be elevated and given more responsibilties.Maloney had such a broad power base that it takes two individuals to fill the role. It's similiar to what happened ten years ago when Larry Pleau went to St.Louis to become their GM.The Rangers hired Don Maloney and John Paddock to cover Pleau's responsibilities

They may hire another GM for Hartford because Sather usually doesn't like the AHL GM involved with the NHL team. When Sather came to the Rangers,Maloney was GM of Hartford plus had his Rangers duties.Sather hired Al Coates to be the Pack GM in 2000 and then Schoenfeld became the GM in 2003 when Coates went to Anaheim

The Rangers would like to have Mark Messier join the FO in a role similar to other former NHL players such as Steve Yzerman and Al Macinnis. He would learn every facet of the hockey business-scouting,contracts,CBA,etc.It would give him time to spend with his family and go on vacations. It wouldn't be a full time role.Messier would have to decide if he really is cut out for the life of a NHL executive when he has over $50 million sitting in the bank

I got this from a friend who works in the hockey business and is usually correct with his info
