Forsberg-Rangers good fit?

"I think Forsberg wants to come back to Colorado, very much so. But one thing to consider is that his girlfriend is from New York. Donít think for a second that might not enter into the equation, and that a team like the Rangers, Devils (or maybe the Sabres, if they lose Drury?) could be more desirable for him. They are pretty serious together (at least they were, last I heard) and she was back in Sweden with him this month." AD denver post

I think the rangers were after forsberg hard at the deadline, i could really see peter wanting to play with a player like jagr and vice-versa. if the rags cant keep nylander do they go after foppa hard and offer what few others wont, say roughly 7M/yr?

No way Forsberg gets $7M. I think he'll get around $4.5-$5M.

If geographic location might be so important to him, than why wouldn't Philadelphia be mentioned in those list of teams around NYC?

I really don't see Forsberg as a Ranger. I think its Colorado, Philly, Sweden, or bust.

I'll be surprised if the Rangers pick up Forsberg. He just seems too injury-laden lately and I don't think the Rangers need yet another aging superstar on their roster right now. Hopefully, they've learned from the past. I can't always be so sure though...

7 million? For a guy who might play half a year, that's way too much. He will wither sign with Colorado for 4 million, or go home.

Great thing about Forsberg is his salary will go off the cap next summer. If the Islanders can't sign Smyth or Gomez i wouldn't mind them overpaying Forsberg for 1 year. that way they have a good player(although one who gets injured alot) this year and caproom free next summer to sign whoever.

For what it's worth he's stated that he wants to return to somewhere he's played. So MoDo, Avs or Flyers most likly. I'd be very suprised to see him anywhere else. At this point in his career I'd assume he'll pick somewhere he wants to be ahead of how much someone will pay him.

And play him with Jagr? That's 2 forwards on the same line who only play offense. Who's gonna cover up for that?

True, but those moves are no longer part of the Ranger's Organizations philosophy, hopefully lol. I personally can see them making an offer to Foresberg , but I dont see them going after him to hard, and I definitely dont see them throwing 7mil at a guy who could end up only playing 20 regular season games. Time will tell though.

Oh ok. That was at least 5 years ago? If you haven't been able to tell yet, over the past 2 seasons the major Ranger signings have been Nylander at 3 mill (steal), Shanny at 4.5 mill (market value), Straka around 3 mill (market value), Rozsival below 2 mill, etc. Unlike MANY teams post-lockout, you can not tell me the Rangers had any rediculous contracts. The closest thing they have to that is Malik, but that isn't exactly a huge contract. The young guys traded by Sather post lockout include a 4th rounder, Maxim Kondratiev, Marc-Andre Cliche, and a 3rd rounder that actually got us our 3rd best prospect, bourret. You think this is the same Sather as the one that gave huge contracts to Boris Mironov? Or maybe he has changed? And trust me, i was one of the biggest Sather haters out there, but the man has changed.

Forsberg would be a great fit for this team pre-lockout. Aging, past his prime, overpayed, injury prone center. Unless the Rangers would be getting a huge bargain on him, I doubt they sign him.

There were 3 other teams willing to pay over 8 million on him, in the Devils whose final offer was 8.5 million, the Flyers who bid 8, and Toronto, who bid 8.5 as well.

It was a bidding war that escalated after the Devils started the bidding by offering him a 5 year deal worth 25 million dollars.

Forsberg might be a good fit in NY at a cheap price. You never know. They could lose out on Gomez and either Nylander or Drury and want Forsberg.

I really don't think Sather will have much interest in Forsberg.

I think Nylander and Shanny will be re-signed within the next week, and the only other UFA coming to NY would be Drury. With Shanny looking to stay for less, with Wash still picking up half of Jags contract and Straka signing for 3 mil, the Ranger shave the money to spend on Drury...even with Nylander getting a raise to the $4,500,000 mark. That would still leave them with about $7 mil for the UFA market.

I'd love to see Forsberg and Jagr play a season on the same team.

We never got to see Mario and Wayne do that, the Euro (or well the NHL 95-01) version would be a decent consolation.

Please God YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

7 mill sounds like alot considering the risks.

One Year 5-6 mill will do it.

Holy Yes Forsberg on the 2nd line with Shanny and Callahan!!!!

Who will Pandolfo shadow?

Fun question, but it adresses the real situation of PF would make the Rangers a really dangerous team with or without JJ on the ice.

The Rangers have become a really good defensive team, Lundqvist a Vezina quality goaltender.

I'd say Forsberg is an AWESOME fit roster wise.

For the right money/years

Forsberg to the Rangers? Absolutely. 2 year-$10MM deal laden with incentives should get it done. Otherwise, I hope he goes back to Colorado.

I guess offering your own player 5 million is equal to the 9 million the Rangers paid him.
