Great signing by Florida. Keeps Horton locked up into his FA years at an acceptable salary with 4 Mio per year.

That is the way you approach your RFA under new CBA. Try to keep your important players of the FA market as long as possible, rather than going to salary arbitration.

Vanek is probably going to get 4.5 now I would guess. Thanks all for the kind words, coming from Panther Nation we are pretty happy.

This is great Now perhaps the dumb proposals of the week for Horton will end, and perhaps the JBou ones will end in another month's time (since both sides have said a 5-6 year deal there too is coming).

This is great deal and a cheap one. Martin said he will lock up Allen, Jbou, Horton and Weiss long term. He is doing it, so far 2 down 2 to go

I love it, this is the best draft week in a long while.

Great signing, by the way, kid's got mad talent.
The team has a deal with the government (not sure which branch) stating they have to stay in Florida for 30 years, which they're only maybe 5 or 6 years into. If someone wants to move this team, they have to pony up a fortune to pay back the branch of government that heped build the arena. I doubt this team's going anywhere.

That deal is going to be a steal in a few years.

This could make him expendable.
If anything it makes him more valuable to his team. They have locked up a top line LW capable of scoring 40 goals a season soon and for 6 six years. When we signed Hemsky, did that make him more expendable?

Exactly, I applaud the signing by the Cats. Great contract.

Makes the Hartnell contract look even worse.

Excellent signing by the Panthers! Rick Nash's contract will make Nathan look very very good.

He was set to be one, yes, but by technicality, Philly still had rights over him.

At the rate he is improving, it's a good deal for the Panthers. Definitely was set by Hartnell deal, though in a few years this could be a steal for the panthers.

Shannagins!

How eriely similar to the 5 year 27.5 Million dollar contract Rick Nash signed that got pegged as the destruction of the NHL.

This signing practically made me jump out of my seat at work. I really commend JM for what he's done lately. Word is that Weiss is next for a long term deal and JayBo as well (after July 1st). I think JM is bringing respectability back to this dead franchise and creating an atmosphere where players like Jokinen, Horton and Weiss WANT to be here to turn things around. All have said it in the local papers - JM has them believing they are building towards being playoff contenders and by locking up the young talent for cap friendly numbers, we're going to have financial flexibility to fill in the gaps.

Horton is only 22 and already has a 62 point/31 goal season under his belt (and was a plus 15 this past season), which Hartnell doesn't, and IMO has a much higher upside than Hartnell. Horton's #s have improved each season (had should injury problems before too) as well. Great signing, JM. You are slowly bringing my faith back into this team's future.

It is a decent deal this season and then for the 5 after that it is a great deal.

He will score 35-45 goals this year.

There are a couple of major differences. Nash's contract was for significantly more money, especially when you consider the differences in the cap when his contract was signed compared to now. He also didn't give up any years of UFA status, whereas Horton gave up 3.

Holmstrom is an absolute steal @1.5m with his 30 goals.

Actually Nash did give up UFA status and Doug Maclean took the beating of a lifetime from HFers.

Of course the money wasn't the same but Nash had a Rocket Richard, I only said they were similar. I don't think the differences are major.
