At this point it really makes no sense to have Bryzgalov. There's no starting job here for 4 more years and he's a UFA after this season. His trade value is pretty high right now that he'll be worth more to the team as a trade asset than a 25 game backup.

Average goaltender?

He won the Conn Smythe in 2003, probably deserved the Conn Smythe in 2007, and has won a Stanley Cup.

How is he "average"?

The way he plays isnt really that good, he had such a good defence and has a pretty average glove hand. 5 million would be acceptable but 6...

lol...he is a franchise goalie in the prime of his career...this is a 30 team league...not every team can have a Luongo or Brodeur...he is just a small step below them.

Burke offered 5 Gigueres agent countered with 7...they met in the middle at 6...he would have gotten 7 on the open market but he wanted to stay in Anaheim.

I personally think Giguere is the 4th best goaltender in the NHL, after the Big Three (Brodeur, Luongo, and Kiprusoff).

Thus, $6 million per season is completely appropriate and deserved.

Anybody know where this ranks him among goalies in pay?

EDIT: I think I answered it myself. Looks like tied for 2nd with Luongo and Turco, behind Khabibulin.

Aside from 2005-06 where he was injured, his lowest GAA with the Ducks is 2.6 and his lowest save percentage was .911. He is 31-13 in the playoffs with a 2.3. If you take out 2005-06 where he was injured he's 28-10 with a 1.79 GAA, so yea, he's above average

salaries are going up...a year ago he was worth 5 millon...now he is worth 6...and some desperate team would have given him 7 on the UFA market.

We'll see... its pretty dangerous for any other team, but Anaheim has a lot of young players who they have for cheap right now.

You can say they just kill you all you want, but there was a time, not so long ago, that J.S. Giguere could of been had for maybe a 2nd round pick. He wasn't playing well and his contract scared off some teams. Your only as good as your last season. Anyone else remember Jose Theodore?

The Morris idea has some merit. He's not Scotty, but he's probably the best available guy at this point, without blowing a wad on the UFA market.

You mean the butterfly style isn't that great? You might wanna inform most of the goalies in the NHL about that.

yes, and Miika Kipprusoff was had for a 2nd round pick, doesn't make him any less of a goalie
