Huet at $3 million vs. Giguere at $6 million?

Well, as the saying goes: You get what you pay for.

Huet buys you a ticket to April tee times, and Giguere buys you a ticket to championship parades.

If you have a goalie that's won a Conn Smythe and has won your team a Stanley Cup (and not even in the same year), I'd say $6M is a very reasonable price.

Well duh, that's a great contract for a pretty good goalie. If it were $6 million each though, you'd be dumb to pass on Jiggy with his accomplishments.

Yes. Unless you are talking about 2000 or maybe 2001 and earlier, a second round pick would never have grabbed you Jiggy.

BTW, to clarify...Jiggy has never had extended periods of not playing well. His worst year wasn't all that bad and was largely due to a crappy team in front of him.

Ilya Bryzgalov could have won the cup if he was in nets.

On an "average per year" basis, he's 3rd now. Khabibulin and Luongo are both on contracts averaging $6.75 million per year. In terms of salary, it depends on how it pays out but he'll probably be 3rd there as well behind Khabby ($6.75 million) and Luongo ($6.5 million) in '07-08.

I don't see how anyone is ripping the deal. The guy just helped his team win a cup and they now have a team in place that has the talent to win for as long as Scott Niedermeyer decides to play. I think Burke is smart enough to not let this deal kill the cap for them in the future. I say congrats to both the goalie and the team.

Possibly if he continued in the playoffs. He wouldn't have been able to carry the team all season like Jiggy did though. He's not proven himself as someone who can handle an extended workload yet.

While Bryzgalov is a good goalie, there is a big difference between Giguere and Bryzgalov. Giguere is more consistant than Bryzgalov and consistancy is key.

If Anaheim truly believed that, they'd sign Bryzgalov for much less and let Giguere go. Obviously they're more confident in Giggy's abilities.

Wrong. Burke is simply stupid.

Bryzgalov is obviously the better goaltender.

Let's simply look at it this way:

Who is younger, Giguere or Bryzgalov?

Since my other post was deleted for I guess not being nice and foo foo enough, I'd like to requote this and say, you are making that up. He never would have gone for a 2nd round pick in the past 5+ years.

No, he's not obviously the better goaltender, since every time he's been given a chance to carry the load, he eventually messes up. Bryz has talent, but he's very inconsistent. I'd be surprised if he ever has lasting success as a starting goaltender.

Not that I really feel like I have to prove anything to you, if anyone can remember back to the 2003-04 Season, and I do. I remember several reports from Bryzgalov saying Ducks Managment were trying to move him, to other reports suggesting the Ducks were trying to move J.S. Giguere for a package of picks and prospects, but that's fine. We can all forget about that.
