Great to see him staying with the Ducks. Should help in getting better value for Bryzgalov as teams looking for a goalie will be more desperate and won't have to just wait for July 1st to get Giggy. Another good move by Burke.
Just a weird club policy. I guess it makes it so they don't have to discuss contracts with the media much and keep things like incentives somewhat secret.
That correct. The NHL doesn't want salaries to be spread around so teams try to keep them somewhat quiet, but the NHLPA will spill the beans because they want team B to know what team A paid for player X.
There's nothing to really say is there, as Giggy can't have bonuses or what not right now. So it's got to be flat cash. Unless it's weighted (I hope it's front loaded if it is, would help to be handing out less cash when signing Getz and Perry next summer.)

Well I secretly wanted to see Giggy gone and Bryz as the number one (I have a boner for Bryz!!!). The numbers look good though. Hope we can get something good for Bryz, and send him to a team in the east that we'll play twice every three years where he can start.
I'm guessing you don't know what I mean in my post so:
For a contract with a cap hit of $6m, you could have something like a base of $4m which the player would get no matter whatm and then have bonuses which are recived after hitting tagets, likst 5 shutouts, 30 goals, 50 points and stuff like that. To be able to have a contract like that you have to be one of three kinds of plater: Old (35+), on a your first rookie contract in the NHL or have been out injured for a long time the past season. As Giggy donesn't fit into any of the groups, he must be getting a flat $6m a year on average. So the only details of the contract to find out are what he's getting paid each season.
The $6m could be something like $7.5m, $6.5m, $5.5m, $4.5m. Which would then mean that we'll be paying out more next year, but have a cap hit of less than that what we're paying. As the deal goes on, we'll be paying less in cast, but still have a cap hit of the $6m. As this team normally works with a real cash budget of about $42 on players, we've always for extra cap room, so the fact we'd be spending less that hit cap hit would help this team out. As we'd have more cash later on to sign the players who are leaving cheap older contract, like Perry and Getzlaf who will be looking for a raise of about $2.5m each.
I was hoping he would only get a 1 year contract since he only plays great on years his contract ends on. All others years he is only an average goaltender.
It may just be a coincidence that his two best seasons he has ever played were years his contract ended on, but it is something I do not like seeing in a player.
