Here is a reason why you haven't heard much about Rafalski on this board

Name: Brian Rafalski
Position: Defenceman Age: 33
Current Salary: $4,200,000
Projected contract: $5 to $5.5 million, outside shot at $6 million (thank you Kimmo and the Flyers) if it's a short-term deal.

For the Harmlik people on this board

Quote:
The issue with Hamrlik will be length of contract. While Hamrlik wouldn't mind signing with the Flames, they only want to give him a two-year deal; Hamrlik reportedly wants a four-year pact and believes he can get it on the open market, given the shortage of quality defencemen and the staggering sums of money they're signing for.

If we are really letting Rachunek walk, and could unload Mara's contract to someone in a trade then offering Rafalski 5.5 for 4 years or so wouldn't be such a bad idea. That would instantly upgrade our blue line and give us that powerplay QB we so highly desire.

But the chances of all the intangibles lining up for something like that? Slim to none.

I'd much rather prefer Sather to be smart and perhaps bring in Sarich to pair with Mara.

I think Preissing would be a great fit here as well, but does that leave room for Staal to crack the lineup then. Things to consider.....
Regardless Rafalski is too expensive imo.

any guy who benefits from the Devils system, particularly an overpaid guy, immediately goes on my do not sign list.

hence why Gomez is at the top.

Why would you want to unload Mara? He has been great since he was traded here, he moves the puck quaterbacks a PP & shoots from every part of the ice, & he wants to be here.

we would have to move some other veteran Dmen to clear cap room, Rachunek, Malik come quickly to mind. Only then would it make sense, but would it? Rozy plays the point on our PP and having 2 RH dmen on the point doesn't make sense, nor having one of them playing on the 2nd unit. But you never know. I wouldn't go overboard. I think waht Philly did raised the price and some of these guys are not worth that kind of $. What Philly did though would make it more difficult for NJ I think to retain him.

That was going to be my question.

He's a 28 year old solid defenseman. Seems to do a lot of the stuff that Poti never did, ie, play defense.

Keep him around.

Rafalski/Paul Mara

True but Mara has no pokecheck...

Gotta Love our # 1; gotta love having Monty as a backup for Henrik, we are moving towards the upper echelon, great job team!!
