I'll give you 07-08, but as for 08-09, when the team hits panic mode, all bets are off. There's only so much you can do when your fan base is dwindling and the team in your back yard is going for back to back cups. They are telling us now to "steady the course..." but next year it could be time to rush a kid into actuin because they have no idea what to do next.

As I've said multiple times, I look at the core as being Johnson, Kopitar and maybe Bernier (if he pans out). Maybe one of Frolov, Cammalleri or Brown will still be with the Kings? Lombardi might like to retain all three, I don't know if that's a realistic projection given the CAP and other considerations such as asset management.

If anything, I'd expect them to go out and get a "name". If the team goes into panic mode (seems likely) as you're suggesting, my guess would be that TL will apply significant pressure on Lombardi. I actually expect that to happen and wouldn't be surprised if Lombardi does as well. I don't see Lombardi doing anything "crazy" this off-season just to get the team into the playoffs this year. I'll take him at his word regarding free-agent signings this off-season that IF he can get the right guy at the right price, he'll do the deal. In other words, I don't think Lombardi is in a "rush" to get the Kings into the playoffs this season. I fully expect to see the Kings in the playoffs of the 08-09 season...
I don't disagree with you one iota, but the history of mistakes this team makes indicates that Bernier could be in a Kings uniform more sooner than later.

If you are referring to the examples of Jamie Storr and Dustin Brown (or anyone else for that matter, except, maybe, O'Sullivan), there is no relevance whatsoever, as those decisions were not made by the Lombardi front office or the Crawford coaching staff.

No... just a bunch of people who complain to read their own complaints... People who claim to be able to see into the future of this franchise and who claim to be better talent evaluators and capologists than those with decades of hockey experience on Lombardi's staff.

I myself come for the comedy... and I stay for the mishigas.

Since the lockout the Kings choices of free agents has been downright horrendous. Bure & McCauley probably have real nice tans though, so you have to look at the bright side.

Can anyone else confirm (or refute) this (no knock on Sniper7; I'm just curious)? I was fairly certain I managed to catch all of Lombardi's apperances on KingsTalk last season, but I absolutely don't recall hearing THIS....

Bure was healthy and was having a great camp until he got rammed into the boards in Vegas. Those are the breaks sometimes. His salary did not count against the cap for the entire year.

I agree with you regarding McCauley & Cloutier.

The Kings were nowhere near the cap ceiling so that is meaningless......he still had to be signed (meaning someone else who might have been considered was not) and payed and he still never helped the team.

Has there been any official release from the team regarding McCauley's buy-out?

When did Dustin Brown become a mistake? How exactly does a 40pt+ top-6 winger with physical play become a bad draft pick?

Did you miss the 24 Million that Scott Hartnell got? I'll bet you cash money that Brown gets more points then he does next season....

Well we know that Ivanans was re-signed so that part at the very least is incorrect.

Why, by virtue of probably almost a dozen better players having been chosen after him, of course! Doesn't make Brown a "bad player," but does make the pick a mistake.

I said "probably almost a dozen." Here's 18 names for you. Out of them I bolded seven that I would definitely prefer over Brown. Time will tell regarding the others.

14 Chicago Brent Seabrook
16 San Jose Steve Bernier
17 New Jersey Zach Parise
19 Anaheim Ryan Getzlaf

20 Minnesota Brent Burns
23 Vancouver Ryan Kesler
24 Philadelphia Mike Richards
28 Anaheim Corey Perry
29 Ottawa Patrick Eaves
45 Boston Patrice Bergeron
46 Columbus Dan Fritsche
47 San Jose Matt Carle
49 Nashville Shea Weber
56 Minnesota Patrick O'Sullivan

148 St. Louis Lee Stempniak
151 Chicago Lasse Kukkonen
202 Buffalo Nathan Paetsch
205 San Jose Joe Pavelski

Parise, Getzlaf or Bergeron would look awful nice in a Kings uniform rather than Dustin Brown. A 1-2 combo of Bergeron & Kopitar would have been nice. Oh well, we can always sign Robert Lang.
