Dead last. Next closest is the Islanders with 50 more.
This needs to be remedied, and fast.

Maybe the fans who scream "shoot" are on to something?

Yep. There's no disputing that even in victory we need to get more pucks on net.

Seems like every period we get our first shot on goal with like 12 minutes into the period.

They either cycle the puck without getting a shot off, overpass the puck, or miss the net entirely. Or they spend too much time pinned in their own zone or fumbling around in the neutral zone that they don't even get close to a scoring opportunity.

Dubinsky and Anisimov need to shoot the puck more. Stepan needs to learn how to hit the net. And I'd like to see Boyle, Feds, and Prust get more involved offensively as well.

So far this season the correlation between shots/game and points % is .076. In other words, don't worry about it.

Edit: Last year it was .567. Pretty remarkable difference.

This.

We are Top 2 in Point%.

Shots are about both quantity...and quality.

The same can be said about records, and this team's W's lack the quality factor - thats for sure.

If this shots issue isnt addressed, its going to bite the team in the ass sooner rather than later.

Shots that miss the net don't count. I'd be willing to bet that we miss the net just as much as any team in the league. The last thing this team needs to do is starting forcing crappy shots. We need to generate better scoring chances with better puck movement.

Doesn't help that shots taken are getting fired wide or blocked, it would seem.

Richards alone misfired several wide last game.

The problem has been that when the Rangers are playing their worst, their shots on goal have been abysmal. Again this is because when teams are effective at shutting down the Rangers offense and puck movement, they're near perfect at it, and the Rangers generally do not adapt to that.

I think it goes back to Torts inability to have a back-up plan for when the other team finds a way to keep the Rangers from generating anything. He has to find a way to switch up his strategy to compensate for teams who play well against the Rangers system(s).

Exactly, hot streaks are all well and good, but it seems the Rangers have relied more on hot play for stretches rather than consistent play all season, which is why they find themselves a bubble team, rather than a top 6 seed.

We probably miss the net most in the league.

I don't believe that. Someone is messing up somewhere. Del Zotto alone would make us about 10th in missed shots.

IMO, the effort is put in most nights, yet this statistic cannot be denied.
If the effort is there, and such is the result, then we need more snipers, no getting around it.

Even granting guys like Hagelin should be here now, we need to upgrade quality of our Fs. Ideally, we need guys w/physical attributes like Anisimov who are also snipers.

Since you have to give to get, and trading a better F for an F will slightly improve the quality of F play, but not leave you with more total Fs who are better players, we need to give up other assets to get those Fs.

If we don't want to cannibalize our best prospects, or surrender high ranking picks in a deep draft, and assume we are not trading Hank, that leaves, um.... that leaves....

yeah somebody else say it for a change.

Who cares?

Shots that dont register on goal are a symptom of the problem.

Go to nhl.com and look at the Shots/Game stat to get a more realistic view of where we stand. We're still last but the spread really isn't that bad, since we've played the least amount of games of any team in the league. Simply using total shots makes us look like we're far and away the worst in the league, which really isn't the case. We still need to improve greatly, though.

Yep, will be something to look at more when we are at mid-season. Looking at it now is stupid.

Well, on the bright side, we probably lead in shot percentage.

But no, seriously this is a big problem. There is no way we can continue to shoot far less than our opponents and win games. Torts needs to address this ASAP.

It's just that its now become a trend. Even though it's only been a few games, you could probably count the amount of games the Rangers outshot the other team on one hand.

This cannot continue.
