“If I knew I was getting traded, Florida would have been one of my top choices.”
“I know the team has missed the playoffs the last couple years, but it’s something I am looking forward in helping to change,” he added. “It’s a good franchise and the stuff I’ve heard is all good and makes me excited. I know there are large shoes to fill, but I want people to expect me to fill them. That’s why you play and compete.”
Those quotes don't really convince me. Pretty much sounds like he was being polite before he could actually form an opinion. Probably thought something along the lines of "uhh... Florida?" Until he remembered about the the re-signings and general positive direction we've moved in recently.
Still, I'm sure he'll be happy here. I'm just not convinced he's too happy about it right off the bat.
I think when he comes here and does a few events over the summer and meets the guys he'll get more comfortable. You can't expect much within the first 48 hours, especially when he's in Turkey on vacation.
Once Vokoun gets settled in here and we start winning, he'll quickly forget about Nashville just like Luongo did. This is a business, these guys understand that. He says he already knows Jokinen, Stumpel, and Olesz. I wouldn't worry.
in all honesty - i don't find it that far fetched. as negative as some people are down here, we have some good young players, it's a great place to live and, yes, the income tax has a play in it too i'm sure. if this team was a consistent winner instead of doormat, i'd be willing to bet it would be one of the favorite landing spots for alot of guys out there.
Yeah, but how much would the average player think about the income tax in Florida? The fact that we're an easily forgotten team means that initial reactions will focus on the negatives due to the obscurity of the positives.
I just can't imagine most players in the league really caring much about recent happenings for the Panthers and thinking they've made much of a difference. He'll love it here though, I don't think anybody's doubting that.
