Voted for Staal.
Is there anyone Staal DIDN'T shut down?

Montoya - single handedly won gold medal for USA at 2004 WJCH U-20, voted AHL All-Star. Staal is probably the U-20 defenseman there is, but I want to see him proven at the pro-stage before he gets my nod over Montoya.

It is, IMO, a better league but you see guys like Big Valley put up just as good or better stats in both leagues and it should tell you that it isn't that much better.
The RSL is a much much betetr league than the AHL.

You can't really use an AHL goalie like Vally as a comparison in that the RSL is also a much more defensive oriented league than the AHL as well.

I think that the RSL may be the best league outside of the NHL with a close second to the SEL

I really cannot belive that this is such a landslide. Montoya is not really playing all that much different than Henke did at the same age. He became an All-Star in his first year in the AHL. His climb towards star status as a goalie is more certain than Staal's is as a defenseman.

I really cannot understand how so many people can choose a prospect who has not accomplished nearly as much as Montoya has. I really feel that some people are going to be settint themself up for disappointment when it comes to Staal. The kid is probably going to be really, really good. But he is more the type to play the unsung role of a #2 defenseman. The guy that is paired with the prototypical #1 type. I love the kid, but expectations of him have to be realistic.

What's more, the fact that more people are selecting the shiny, new prospect of the week (much as I like Cherepanov as well) ahead of Montoya seems incredulous. It seems to me that people greatly undervalue Montoya as a prospect (which has nothing to do with his trade value).

Wow, not a lot of love for Montoya. My boy Callahan is hanging tough with Al for the 3rd spot.

8. Girardi
9. Anisimov
10. Dawes

We have an incredible amount of depth. My goodness.

I can't fathom for a second how we aren't #1 in the prospect rankings.
Mayhap we will be when they next re-rank them...

I certainly love the players on your list, but where are our fantastic Dmen? Mine looks like this:

1.Staal
2.Cherepanov
3.Montoya
4.Bourret
5.Dubinsky
6.Girardi
7.Callahan
8.Sauer
9.Anisimov
10.Sanguinetti
(Then Korpi, then Baranka, and THEN Dawes)

Wow. SO many players that are top ten QUALITY, but don't make the cut. I LOVE our system. We definitely have to be right at or at least near the top after that last draft. (Looking at my list, obviously I say to add Girardi.)

I have a hard time ranking them after Callahan on my list as they are all interchangable, IMO. So many good players.

So many.

This is a real solid 20.

1. Staal
2. Montoya
3. Cherepanov
4. Dubinsky
5. Girardi
6. Bourret
7. Anisimov
8. Callahan
9. Dawes
10. Sanguinetti
11. Korpikoski
12. Baranka
13. Pyatt
14. Sauer
15. Dupont (a personal favorite of mine and a player I'm looking forward to seeing very much as a pro).
16. Byers
17. Hillier
18. Lafleur
19. Zaborsky
20. Ryan

There are a few other very intriguing players incl. Dylan Reese, Corey Potter, Greg Moore. And not sure about Pock whether he's still a prospect or not.

went with monty....really i think him and staal are pretty amazing blue chip prospects (starting goalie, and top pairing d man), but i gave monty the nod since he has taken the next step in the ahl.

This is an extreme exaggeration.
04-05 OHL All-Star
05-06 Named top defenseman at the world juniors, Gold medal.
06-07 OHL's most outstanding defenseman, Postseason MVP

What more do you expect him to accomplish?

Reese and Potter would have to be signed to NHL contracts to be eligible. Pock is not eligible, as this upcoming season will be his 4th pro season since graduating (although you could argue he's technically eligible until the season starts.) Liffiton's still eligible.

My only regret about this draft is that we did not draft Luca Cunti. I love that name

Something to rival what Montoya has at the AHL level, before I call him a better prospect.
