Audett`s buyout, dos he get paid if we are locked out next year?
He will get his money, not sure if it was a total buyout this year or a portion next year too. No matter what he gets paid and we are on the hook for it. But for him to get it so soon I'm thinking Gainey had some good negotiaitons with Audettes agent and he didn't get as much as one would think. He wants to be a UFA so he can sign elsewhere probably for the league minimum, to be done so fast I think Gainey had to come out on top even if we are paying him still to play elsewhere.
I heard Nick Kipreos (sp?) say Audette would end up receiving 20 games salary next year no matter if there's a lock-out or not. If there's a lock-out, that means 1/4 of his salary paid. If there's none, that means 2/3 of his salary paid. That makes no sense to me and I don't know why Gainey would accept to bend over like that to pay him 750K no matter what next year, as he can legaly buy Audette's contract at 2/3 next year without Audette nor his agent having a say in it and if there's a lock-out, all contracts will be void. But again, the source of this news is not the greatest and most reliable in hockey media so take it with a grain of salt.
Originally the Canadians were ready to send him to the minors and retain there rigths on Audette. However, Audette wanted to become a free agent and offer his services to all teams therefore needed his contract to be bougth out. The Canadians granted his request at a cost of $250,000. Audette will be recieving $1.4 million this year instead of the $ 1.625 million which was his actual salary time 2/3.
Other than that, this appears to be regurlar buy out. He receives 2/3 of is full salary. If there is a a lock out next year he will receive 2/3 of nothing or whatever would have been paid if he had not been bougth out.
It appears however that Audette has accepted to have this paid out over the next three years.
