did anyone see an article in Hockey News

about the best players not in the NHL. I don't subscribe anymore but a friend told me they had a list and a Flyers European prospect was listed but he could not remember the player's name. If anyone saw the article, could you fill me in on the players listed. Thanks.

If it was an old article it was probably Jiri Dopita who has long since been labelled an NHL flop. Other than that, I can't think of any player (aside from perhaps Malek) who would be so highly touted... and even he's a stretch.

I didn't see the article, but I would think it would be Andrei Razin.

I forgot about Razin and the guy who saw the article thought it was a Russian. I think it was Hockey News with the last few issues.

After last season, it could be Malek, though he's Czech.

Drozdetsky is a good prospect, but he's nowhere near being one of the best in the world outside of the NHL.

Razin is usually one of the leaders in the Russian Super League, but it's highly doubtful that he'll ever come to NA considering he's in his late 20s or early 30s (?), he's also too small to be effective in a scoring role in the NHL.

well, I have a subscribtion to THN and I don't remember seeing it. I looked threw it again and I still don't see it. do you know what cover or month it was for?

my guess would also be Razin. I beleive he is about 30yrs old and has been compared to Igor Larionov. Razin is a little bigger than Larionov too, so I think that he would be able to play in the NHL, I have read that he has no interest to play in the NHL.

Well, in every issue they have a section called "Eye on Europe" that has blurbs about several Euros. They're not really full articles, only a couple of sentences for each player. If that was what your friend was talking about, Tomas Divisek was listed in an early November issue. Here's the quote:

"24, RW. Divisek, who played five NHL games in three seasons in the Flyers' system, is one of the top scorers in the Czech league with nine points in 10 games with Pardubice."

Why do these guys bother entering the draft then?

If they go high enough and are offered a good contract it might be worthwhile for them to come over.

My friend just found the articles. It was in the Eyes on Europe, it mentions him being among the league leaders in scoring.
