If Lowe offered $10.6 million, you guys would get 4 1st round picks for Dustin, as much as I'd love to have the kid on my team, that's waaaay too much compensation IMO. $5.5 is a possibility, especially if Lowe continues to have a hard time finding a goal scoring LW.
$5.5 isn't an option for Penner, not even from Lowe. $3.5 million per on a four or five would be the ideal RFA offer, since he's worth a first and a third, and it's just enough to really put the squeeze on Anaheim. You know Burke wants to bring him in for well under that.
The optimist in me is thinking that Burke is talking to Teemu about coming back for one more year and then figuring out Penner's salary.
if penner is likely to get ~3-4 million from the ducks how much more would it take for him to go to Edmonton and accept the offer sheet?
I mean maybe he rejects a 5 million offer...
I don't think Penner will sign an offer sheet, and I don't think Lowe will extend and offer sheet to Penner. I think this is just taking a little bit of time so that Burke and Penner can get a long term deal done. We're only 13 days in to free agency so I'm not too worried yet.
A recently completed study states that 78.9% and 67.1% of professional hockey players would rather shoot themselves in the foot or take a brick to the face, respectively, than play in Edmonton.

"It's like north pole."
Aaron Rome has taken a brick in the face so we can cross that off the list.
This Penner shizzle is starting to piss me off now. I mean have some respect for the team that gave you a shot and put your name on the cup already....and sign a contract!
Or the Ducks don't want to sign him now in case Scott or Teemu come back, in which case they sign him for one year and negotiate a long term extension later.

It's been above 90 Farenheit here for the last 4 days, I know global warming is taking its toll, but if the North Pole ever gets to 90 Farenheit, we may be in some trouble.
I haven't seen his Arby hearing listed anywhere and no new contract has been posted/announced. Hearings started on the 20th, so what in the world is going on?
Also he's an RFA. Was there even a Qualifying Offer?? I don't see any notes that he has been offered his QA and selected Arby, and he's isted as an RFA on Irish Blue's site but no QA $$$$ there.
I figured he wouldn't get signed while burke was on the cruise thing. Probably soon enough, but as said earlier. Don't worry about this until we get through august.
RFA offer sheet to Dustin Penner. 5 years at 21M. He signed it.
You got Lowed.
That's almost 2 million over market value based on Stempniak's 3yr 7.5. I see Penner and Stempniak as pretty comparable in terms of the contract they deserve.
This sucks. The contract is too fat. The compensation picks too low. Leaving no 'good' choice for Burke.

Hartnell is the comparable here, they are basically the same player. I'd say Penner is better though. Both overpayments.
