Nylander-What Is Going On Here?

Can someone please explain what is happening with Nylander and why he isn't being resigned.

1) What happened, I thought he was locked up months if not days ago?

2) Is Nylander trying to milk cash OR is Sather lowballing/underappreciating him?

3) Do you agree with what is going on OR is Sather being a fool?

4) Why aren't the Rangers trying to lock up Nylander and Gomez, why according John Del is it just Gomez as a replacement?

As far as I can tell, the Rangers needed another center besides Nylander.
Free agency was supposed to give them a complement, and they have the capital and space, so why does it appear instead of going into free agency to improve they are going in without a center and plans to only nab one?

I don't understand, to me it looks as if either Nylander is being selfish or Sather is being a hardball egomanic.
