Hmm their website is slow at updating then. Because they don't mention anything about it.

While expected after signing Schneider, I'm a little surprised that the announcement came so quick right after Burke saying that he hasn't retired yet. Kind of a "how did you decide so quickly" thing.

Maybe he will get bored in a couple of years and make a comeback like Mario and Lafleur did. Better make sure Rob sticks around so he decides to do it on the Ducks.

He did a lot for this organization I wish him all the best. I'd get bored sitting around at 33 yrs old but good for him if thats what he wants to do.

TSN jumped the gun! I was holding out hope that because after an hour they had no story and that no one else reported it that it might not be true, and, as it looks right now, he's still around! TSN just posted a story saying that he told people he would retire, but, has seemingly changed his mind and as of right now, is not retired!

Hopefully he decides to stay not retired for a few years.

In a surprising twist Anaheim Ducks captain Scott Niedermayer did not officially announce his retirement as expected, although sources say Niedermayer had informed those close to him of his intentions to do so earlier in the day.

Sources suggest Niedermayer was counseled to perhaps, leave himself an out if he has a sudden change of heart between now and the start of the season. "

Well money-wise he or Teemu might have to retire. That or Penner gets a 1 year deal (will he still be RFA) on the cheap. That'd make next offseason fun for RFA.

That said... please come back Scotty. I bet there's a lot of people who just bought your jersey with a Stanley Cup patch and need to wear it to at least one game.

TSN jumped the gun I am reading the conference call transcript the ducks had today and both Burke AND Niedermayer indicated that Scott had not made a decision yet.

Ha ha. Scotty's just toying with us now. Leave some extra cap space, Burke.

Maybe Scott is waiting until camp to make the announcement to make sure Burke doesn't ship Rob off to the Bruins! LOL

As big of a blow as it might be to lose Niedermayer, you're getting a very good D man in Schnieder, you will like him a lot.

If he doesn't retire our defense is going to be scary good.

If he is, then thanks for everything Scott.

I think Scott is still going to retire....All he did was delay the announcement. He protecting himself from the legal issue should he decide to retire...It's not just as simple and saying that I'm done and go play lego's with the kids.

He has a pension and other union issues to take care of and once those are done, it's very difficult to come back.

I know I'm supposed to say things like, "thanks for everything" and "it's his decision and I respect that."

But that's not the way I feel. This is ********. He signed here for 4 years, and is wussing out after winning the Cup.

The problem is you guys aren't dickish enough about it. Sometimes I have to go to other boards for entertainment and histrionics. For example the Kings board and Habs board are pretty entertaining right now.

Curse us and our actual perspective and rationality! We need more hyperbole!
