The New York Rangers are no longer underdogs!

BROADWAY JACKPOT!

The last couple of seasons we have done well playing the underdog role. We were the little team that could. Well those days are over. Everyone will be gunning for us this year. It's time for this team to walk with a little swagger and know that great things are expected from them. They need to have the mentality that they should come out on top every night and that anything less is not acceptable. While they haven't won anything yet, they need to believe that they will. Our time is now!

Let's hope the defense gets the memo.

Resign Shanahan. His leadership will most certainly be needed on a team like this.

O.T. but im watching Fox Sports Extra and they havent mentioned a single thing about ANY hockey signings, let alone one of the greatest double signings of any New York team ever.

Oh well.. .

Ever see the Tampa Bay Lightning play? All offense and no defense just doesn't cut it. I hope the Rangers still have something up their sleeves to fix this problem or it may be an odd season for you guys.

I am with you on the defense Brooklyn. It's certainly not great. Hopefully it's good enough, and Hank is his usual self to bail them out when needed. Maybe Staal will slide right in and make an immediate impact. If not, maybe the additional offense makes up for the occasional lapses at our end.

our defense was the one that actually carried us at the end of the regular season and early in the playoffs. so i dont understand why people are worried about it.

As a Flyers fan (who now has a real team), I say this from the bottom of my heart and in the goodwill and hope of a strong rivalry next season: **** you guys.

Brilliant moves. I'm buying tickets for every Rangers-Flyers home game next season. It's going to be a great bloody mess. Good times, good times.

Today is all about timing.

-Jagr still has something in the tank
-Nylander forced the team to make sure they got a center- why not two if they are available and higher on the list?
-Sather wont be here at the end of these terms so if it fails hes not around to deal with it.
-After 2 successful seasons, the team is on a serious upswing.
- Thornton and Iginla resigning
- The Devils are on a downswing losing Rafalski and you have a chance to take their best center.
-The Flyers are all over the place, getting better on paper
-The Isles are losing chips
-The fans are ready for a championship caliber team. Seriously.
- You have a young hot goalie whos in his third year after getting two consecutive Vezina nominations.
- You have a few prospects (especially Stall) that will give you the youthful energy a championship needs, plus even more orginanizational stregth below that.
-You have a team hungry that whats to win and winners have been signed.
-You have a true leader in Shanahan that will stay and guide this team as the grizzly veteran.
- You have a fighter and agitator in Orr and Avery that can protect and distract.

The pieces are all there.

They are going for it.

Its now or never time. The next two seasons are it boys and girls.

In the words of Akeem from Coming to America....

YES!!!! YES!!!! **** YOU TOO!!!!!

Good luck to the Flyers..the moves you guys have made are very good and I can't wait to see this rivalry return to the days when both teams were actually good at the same time.

I said this on another thread...the Atlantic is the best division in hockey right now for my money. The Isles are the odd man out at the moment since it looks like they are losing both Blake and Smyth, but even then DiPietro is always capable to steal a few wins. I can't wait for this season.

Smyth gone from the Island to Colorado.

What a blunder that trade.

Atlantic getting easier, but the Pens and Flyers look good - and NEVER count the Devils out.

Hands down, bar none, this is going to be the most entertaining division in hockey. Having Philly and NY have solid teams is very, very important for hockey. These are two great hockey towns that are going to have amazing amounts of excitement. I don't think any Flyers or Rangers fan can guess how the chips are going to fall next season (just too much talent in the division) but I have a feeling that the division can be heavily represented in the playoffs. I really hope we face you guys in round two.

Our D was very good 2nd half of last year. What are the issues with the D?

This team lacked non Jagarian scoring.

Sather did a good job here. Held all the kids too. I'm a bit surprised. I'm thinking he is too.

Henrik's deal is probably going to be for one year. Got that from Sam's blog. It's not a problem as he's a RFA for another 2 years. Once we clear out a little more cap space we'll lock him down long term.

While I agree with you that the overall TEAM commitment to defense was excellent, I still believe that we had too many defensive blunders. Fortunately, most times the opponent either failed to capitalize or Hank bailed us out. We still need to improve our personel. Hopefully Staal steps right in and has an impact like Girardi did.

I agree...if we had any kind of offense besides the Jagr line in the playoffs we would have make some serious noise. People want those big names but as a group our D played very well. Tytuin really emerged as a TOP D.

Deflections off our D really hurt but you can't blame that kind of stuff on them....that could happen to Pronger/Niedermier.

Saying that, we are still UNDERDOGS until otherwise proving it on the ice.
