Remaining Netminders

From what I can gather, there are still a lot of goalies that are still on the market, I'm sure some will retire, go overseas, or fade away. Regardless here they are, the problem is that, I don't see many jobs available, with rumours that the Leafs are trying to move Raycroft, and the Duck the same with Bryzgalov, that leaves:

Buffalo could use a backup
Calgary could use a backup (Unless they use Irving)
Columbus could use a starter or backup (they have Leclaire and Norrena)
Detroit needs a goalie with only Osgood under contract
Florida could use a better backup
Los Angeles needs a goalie (Cloutier and RFA LaBarbera)
Minnesota and Nashville might want a better backups
Montreal might want a better backup
San Jose also need backup goalies
Tampa Bay could use a starter, or someone to challenge either of their guys.

Plus, PHX, OTT and NYR have number ones that are RFAs and need to be signed.

The following is a list of the remaining Free Agent goalies:
Kevin Weekes
Scott Clemmenson
David Aebischer
Sean Burke
Ed Belfour
Alex Auld
Jussi Markkanen
Dominik Hasek
Brian Boucher
Jamie McLennan
Ty Conklin
Jocelyn Thibault
Jean-Sebastien Aubin
Mika Noronen
Curtis Joseph
Robert Esche

EDIT: Oilers signed M. Garon.
EDIT 2: Canucks sign C. Sanford
EDIT 3: Devils sign K Weekes

Don Maloney does not consider Mikael Tellqvist a number one.

Lunqvist via RFA offer sheet once the Rangers sign Shanahan.

Montreal=no need of a goalie.

Aebischer should find a place to play, he showed some good things.

because the 9 million after we sign shanny won't be enough....or because henrik changed his mind and is now accepting offer sheets, when his agent said the aren't going to

Boston is trying to trade Toivonon ... not that he has much value. He's cheap and young, anybody want him.

I suppose that helps, but Schaefer hasn't been able to stick it out at the NHL level yet. And Backstrom and Harding are less then heavily tested, but I imagine that the Wild management will go into the season with those 3.

Krahn and McElhinney will be fighting for the backup spot in the Flames camp, with the loser getting the starting position in the AHL

Any team without a goaltending prospect would want him. He has great potential, and makings of a number one.

Panthers won't be going for a backup, it's Craig Anderson. Vokoun is here to shore the large part of the load. Anderson, while not that great in Chicago, played excellently in his 5 games here last year and is a cheap option for the Panthers at $500,000 a year for 2 years.

Moreover, Panthers still have to sign Weiss, Welch, and Montador to contracts so money isn't really available.

There's Gerber, sure he's not a UFA, and sure he has two years at 3.5 mil, but he still available.

I'd love the Coyotes to take a shot on him.

Phoenix, Columbus, Detroit, Los Angeles needs a starter

Buffalo, Calgary, Minnesota, Nashville, New Jersey, San Jose, Vancouver needs a backup

I think Columbus will leave it that way
I think Calgary, Minnesota & maybe San Jose will go with one of their prospect

So 7 teams for 17 goalies out of them I say

Scott Clemmenson (Bet on NJ), Sean Burke (will retire), Dominik Hasek (Bet on DET), Jocelyn Thibault (will retire), Mika Noronen (Europe)

So 5 teams for 12 goalies

Kevin Weekes
David Aebischer
Ed Belfour
Alex Auld
Jussi Markkanen
Brian Boucher
Jamie McLennan
Ty Conklin
Curtis Sanford
Jean-Sebastien Aubin
Curtis Joseph
Robert Esche

EDIT: Oilers signed M. Garon.
There is also an off-the-chart former Blues' prospect, Chris Beckford-Tseu.
He's just 23 years old, 6'2" and ~210lbs., a 5th-rounder in 2003 from T.O.

He's been buried on the Blues depth chart for several seasons now and post-lockout he got buried even deeper. He lead the ECHL Alaska Aces to the Kelly Cup in 2006.

He knows he's got "the right stuff" and asked the Blues to not qualify him. So he is a free man!!

He is the sleeper back-up IMHO.

if you count Keetley & Lelande who are graduating from the CHL the Flames have 4 AHL goalies... but at the same time I expect the Flames to sign someone more capable than Krahn or McElhinney

out of that list I'd like to see Auld signed as the backup if the Flames go the UFA route to fill that hole

That would be quite the logjam. One of Lalonde or Keetley will start their pro career in the AHL.

I think you are overlooking McElhinney. He was named to the AHL's second team all-star after posting a 2.13 goals against and a .917 save percentage.

I would almost bank on McElhinney backing up Kipper this year, with Krahn getting the initial nod in Quad City.
