I would rather have had him go out west, but yea Nylander feeding Alex O and possibly Semin could be very dangerous.

Guys, the same goes to Ortmeyer, and I know that those two guys will not be remembered in the long run as "Great Ranger players", but just to show our appreciation for the last two seasons, I hope we give both Nylander and Orts standing o's when they come back to MSG for the first time.

Both guys were great for us. I was a little upset when Dom. Moore returned for the first time with PIT last season and the Garden hardly recognized him. Both Nylander and Ortmeyer were (sorry Dominic) more important to the Rangers and more loved by the fans, so I think we should show our thanks.

While I am a bit discouraged with the Nylander situation and how he wanted to get alot more than I thought he was worth (not that I blame him), I appreciate what he did here and I wish him luck in Washington. Him centering AO is going to be fun.

Just read on tsn that the deal is for 4 years at 19.5 mil, in a way I guess it's a good thing Sather didn't match

Years three and four...

could've been tough - that's why he wasn't resigned. A shorter contract for that money per year may've made sense (keeping an extra couple mil $$ for cap space would not have hurt), but four years when you don't know if Jagr will be here two more makes you think twice. He's in a good situation for himself in Washington and he'll continue to push near the 100 point mark the next couple seasons.

I'm almost certain he'll play with AO. Ovechkin desperately needs a playmaking center, and Nylander fits the bill. Washington has no one in the system or on the roster that really profiles as a top-tier center in the near future.

How about Backstrom... Isn't he a Center?

Haha yeah JayMan, I live in Washington and listen to the announcers sing the praises of Backstrom night in, night out so I don't know how I forgot him. He's definitely a potential star center.

My dumb mistake aside, I can't imagine the Caps are bringing in Nylander to senter the second line. They need scoring, and Nylander-Ovie seems like a sure thing. Semin can play alongside Backstrom, and develop together.

Count me among the ranks that wanted to see Nyls head west as well. That said, I wish him luck in Washington. I didn't want to see him go but 4 years is too much at this stage in his career.

As far as playing with Ovechkin, is it just me or does anyone else thing Nylander's style doesn't mesh well with Ovie's? Nylander likes to slow it down, circle and cycle. Ovechkin is a more of a power down the wing, on the rush type scorer. Nylander would have looked alot better either back here or on a line with Hossa in Atlanta in my opinion.

This just made alot more sense than Nylander to Edmonton. Apparently, Nylander was offered a bigger contract by Edmonton, but chose Washington instead, a team he has already played in with alot of interesting players to fool around with (Ovechkin, Kozlov, Semin, Bäckström, etc).

4 years @ $4.875 million cap hit.
