Rumor: Alex Auld to Calgary?

One year, $600,000 deal.

Not sure how much credence to put in this, but it looks like the Calgary Flames have targeted the former Panthers netminder to play shotgun to Miikka Kiprusoff.

Thoughts??

I would rather have McLennan back than have Alex Alud as our backup

Keenan strikes again. Good signing though.

Aim between his legs.

Solid signing for the price though, he's a capable backup.

No need to worry about that. You'll be gettng a healthy dose of Kipper this year (just as we'll see far too much of Mr. Luongo!)

That said, maybe this is the Keenan connection at play. However, I was pretty convinced that Sutter was going to let McElhinney and Krahn battle it out for the backup job this year. There's a backlog in the AHL system with McElheinney, Krahn, and maybe Keetley and Lalande ready for that system.

So Auld gets 12 games a year? Yeah that's good for his development.

No way. Auld has shown he can, at least, win games with decent defense in Vancouver. Granted, both had a 3.xx GAA and 0.89 save percentage last year, at least Auld did alright with the Canucks

Auld is a very capable backup. Good signing at that price if true.

I think he realizes he's a backup goaltender, at best, now.

He might get 15-18 games, depending on how well he plays when called upon.

Plus what Detroit gave them for Bertuzzi, a couple picks and prospect Shawn Matthias. Still not much for a goalie like Roberto Luongo, though.

We'll see... The Flames already have 5 goalies under contract (incl. Krahn's fresh one) and I doubt they want Keetley and Lalande splitting the job in the ECHL.

It just doesn't make a lot of sense to retain Krahn with this many G's already signed if Krahn wasn't the last of the G signings. But, as I said, we'll see.

I doubt it. Flames are looking to promoting one of their two minor league goaltenders.

Better than noodles. However, I'd rather see one of the prospects as the backup.

imo auld was a decent goalie when he was playing for the canucks.. although that year we didn't make the playoffs.. but he was actually one of the bright spots.. imo he was going to improve.. don't know how he did in florida though..

Too bad the shot would likely miss the net though!

Unlikely, the Flames have 2 netminders busting out of the AHL. Maybe, and only if Krahn really screws up and Sutter loses faith in him.

Goood job.....for 600k.....its a steal.

Honestly....when Auld played most of the season for the Canucks..he looked like a legit nhl starter....
He had a real bad last year....i think Auld has what it takes to develop into a great goalie.....

And Vokouuuunnnn,Salei (money not spent on Luongo/Bertuzzi). Yes,spending money on Luongo in a "ideal world/situation" might have been the best option, but you cannot predict life.

Calgary leads Vancouver for Florida Team #2 (i.e. Florida West)
