Luoma's debut

Well, I was quite impressed with his play tonight. He was on the ice for that first goal but instead of dreading over it and becoming cautious, he went on to play his game. If he plays this good most of the time then we have ourselves a real keeper here! What did you guys think of his play?

Agreed, only watched part of the game, but I too was impressed with his play. Looks to be a rushing type from what I saw, also very patient...

I only saw parts of the game. I saw Luoma lose the puck behind our net about 3 times but the Wild did not convert. I also saw his assist, looked like a good play. I will reserve judgement.

I posted this in the game day thread, and it fits here too.

I'm really impressed by Luoma tonight, first goal not withstanding. He's very patient, but doesn't hold on to the puck forever, like the Oilers are so prone to doing. It looks like he is going to do well here. His game reminds me of Cross with a lot more skill - he doesn't hit terribly hard, but he clears the net, and he is very slow, but somehow gets to the right place when he is needed.

He has looked poor in the game's I've seen when with the Roadrunners, but he had calm feet tonight, played very well. I don't know what to expect out of him into the future, but he's big and not stupid which means he could have an NHL job for a decade.

I thought that he played a good game for his debut. He was given a great opportunity after Smith was injured and stepped up with a ton of ice time.

This is around the 5th game I've seen Luoma play this year, and bar none IMO it was his best. Other than the first goal (he wasn't the only one at fault, there were two other guys with him behind the net), he played steady and smart, and while his shot wasn't the hardest it was at least low and on the net.

Hopefully he can build on this, anything to keep Ferguson off the PP point.

I think the main difference between Luoma and Bergy right now is age and maturity and experience. MAB is still a young kid and I don't buy it for one second that he's only going to be a future AHLer. He should be back with Oilers before the end of the season. Luoma just has the poise you would expect from a 27 year old.

Perhaps ther reason for his uninspired play with the RRs is the fact that hes 27, has played in Finland highest league and was disappointed with being on the farm. Now hes got his chance and has decided to play how he can.

Pure speculation on my part

I was impressed

I have the expectations of a rookie playing his first game despite his age.

Made a few mistakes but what dman doesn't in the course of a game?

On the whole he was calm with the puck, made good outlet passes and played fairly well physically. Doesn't panic easily under pressure.
