1993-1994 season

Of that season what stood out to you most?
What moment did you like the most?

did you go to any games?

Guy Hebert was my hero. I thought Terry Yake was awesome.

Screw how the Ducks did in that season. Canucks losing in the finals was the best part.

I remember how Disney it was. With tinker bell after goals, cartoon characters on the jumbotron, things like that. I also remember the players I really liked like Terry Yake, Ron Tugnutt, and Todd Ewen. I also liked how a lot of the games were on Kcal, I enjoyed that.

Was Yake the captain? Who were the assistant/alternate (which one is it officially?) captains?

Yake was never the captain. Troy Loney was the Ducks' first captain. After Loney, Randy Ladouceur captained the Ducks.

Yeah, any time there was a fight you'd see the clip of all the goofies fighting...

But yeah, I don't remember that much other than Semenov being their best player and Grimson breaking his arm.

Also remember Hebert's blood red pads? Those things looked terrible!

I was what, 9 at the time, so I don't recall a lot. Kinda sad. But hey, I remember last year pretty well.

I remember Sean Hill scoring the first goal against Detroit (lost the game by a wide margin though). Randy Ladoceur had the mustache back then. Watching the games on KCAL, they'd have a cartoon intro. I was in junior high!

One of the reasons I followed the Ducks was because I thought it'd be cool if I followed a team from the beginning, that way I won't miss out on any of the history. Of course, not much is worth mentioning the first few years.

My favorite goalie was actually Mikhail Shtalenkov. I've always liked those backup/depth guys.

Beating the eventual Cup champs ... twice in two games ... was pretty cool.

I loved that team. They were gutty, even though the talent was pretty lame. Too bad we had to wait over a decade to see another Ducks team with as much heart and grit.

Joe Sacco. That's all that needs to be said.

I remember the cartoon intro for the games very vividly, and that damned "Rock the Pond" song. I have that inaugural season VHS around here somewhere.

I can totally relate. Shtal was the man! I always thought he had a much cooler helmet than Guy Herbet (did he have that same helmet he had most his career back then?).

Joe could go north and south faster than anyone on the ice except when he had the puck.

When Joe left the Ducks the Del Taco signs on the boards behind the nets gave a huge sigh of relief.

Actually the best Sacco to ever put on the Ducks Jersey was his brother David!

As for Mikhail Shtalenkov - Give me a break his nickname wasn't "Swiss-Cheese Mikey" for nothing - Dude couldn't catch a friggin cold or stop a beach-ball!

The moment I remember most was when McSween severed Selanne's tendon with his skate blade... damn it still gives me shivers.

Anyone else remember the IceMan?

Swiss Cheese Mikey played with a white helmet for the longest time.

You said it. That was what actually convinced me to switch over from my previous hockey allegiance (The Blues). I really liked Semenov and Corkum, speedy Joe Sacco and shot-blocking Randy Ladouceur. And Bobby Dollas had one of the more underrated seasons for an expansion defenseman (he was +20 on that team).

Just nice to see a team giving it their all night after night, even if they weren't that talented.

I was a big Ron Tugnutt fan, too. I was kind of bummed when they traded him for Stephan Lebeau.

I soon grew to like Lebeau, but he vanished after the lockout shortened season in 1995. Whatever happened to the guy?

He had a European girlfriend who didn't want to live in the States.

Yeah, after that lockout season I believe he played in Switzerland.

Anyone remember Shaun Van Allen or Bill Houlder?

And yeah Shtalenkov had that white mask for as long as I remember. Occasionally Hebert changed his mask, I liked the one with the purple (or were they green?) feathers on the sides.

Officially it is alternate captains. But I don't remember who they were.
